    Sheltering Arms is looking to hire a Lead Caseworker for our New Children's Center located in the Bronx. The Caseworker is a professional staff position providing comprehensive casework services for infants, toddlers and children up to 12 years of age in the Reception Center and their families.

    The Caseworker should be committed to a service philosophy that is child centered and family focused. The position is demanding and highly interactive with the children and their families, staff, and community. Caseworkers must be comfortable working with youth and families in the context of the facility, the office and in the community of origin.

    Essential Functions:

    Leadership:

    • Provide leadership and task supervision to BA level caseworker(s) / intern(s) within program

    Casework with Youth:

    • Maintains on-going qualitative social work/ youth and social work/ child care staff contacts in accordance with regulatory mandates.
    • Participate in interdisciplinary team and conduct assessments of children including completion of psychosocial assessments and other required reports, specifically status reports for ACS and placement recommendations.
    • Maintain regular contact with birth families and encourage regular visitation in accordance with approved visitation plan, provide supervision of these visits.
    • Home visits to meet parents and family members will be required, visitation and other activities in the community with children and family are also required.
    • Visits at family’s homes and within the community will be required.
    • Participate in all required meetings internally, externally and as required by ACS.
    • Work closely with ACS to facilitate placement of each child in the most appropriate and least restrictive setting.

    Casework with Collateral Persons:

    • Maintains regular contact and efficacious working relationships with significant parties involved in the service planning and provision process
    • I.e. child care staff, educational personnel, court and legal representatives, foster parents, medical personnel, and other caseworkers involved; assures a holistic, culturally sensitive, family-centered and child-focused presentation of case particulars.

    Normative Issues:

    • Supports and maintains dependable responsible professional and accountable staff behavior, positive program norms, and teamwork primacy.
    • Supports program philosophy/objectives; effectively integrates with other disciplines; confronts and discourages negative behavior, attitudes, and program norms; maintains enthusiasm, sharing “the work” and participation in program activities.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • LMSW, MSW or related Human Service degree
    • A minimum of two years casework experience
    • Strong leadership skills
    • SIFI preferred, not required
    • Good writing and organizational skills.
    • Persistence to explore family relationships and build team work.
    • Knowledge of child welfare systems.
    • Strong sensitivity to cultural differences among clients and within our organization
    • Strong foundation in trauma informed care
