  • Responsibilities

    We are seeking an Leader-in-Training (LIT) Director to plan and facilitate a week of LIT training and support the LITs through 4 weeks of counseling. The LIT director will guide the LITs while they teach camp activities, lead an evening program, finish a camp service project and counsel campers. LITs are girls going into their senior year of high school. The LIT Director will also co-lead a 5 night backpacking trip with some of the LITs at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

    Specific Responsibilites

    • Supervise and give feedback to LITs while they participate in their counseling experience
    • Assist LITs in planning and implementing their LIT project and evening program
    • To select and implement an evening program that fits the camps goals
    • Assist in assigning LITs to the programs for which they are qualified
    • Assist in working the Program Director to keep camp operating smoothly and efficiently
    • Provide contact with the parents about LITs
    • Assist in the evaluation of programs and LITs
    • Teach and sub for activity hours as necessary
    • Provide support to other Administrators
    • Participate as a team member in the planning and implementation of a comprehensive staff training program
    • Assist in the preparation of the LIT Manual
    • Direct one holdover camping session
    • Participate in weekly staff meetings during the camping season
    • Complete and submit all required reports and records
    • Accept added responsibilities deemed necessary

  • Qualifications
    • Has or is seeking a Bachelors Degree in Camp Administration or related degree or equal level of experience
    • At least 20 years old
    • Criminal clearance from the Licensing Department by the state
    • Current CPR, First Aid and LGT Certifications (Can Get During Staff Training)
    • Ability to supervise staff and campers in a camp community
    • Ability to meet the public and promote camp programs
    • Ability to take on an integral planning role for all camp functions
    • Ability to accept guidance, criticism and supervision
    • Strong leadership skills, the ability to teach and supervise children and teenagers, and wilderness trip experience necessary
    • Enthusiasm, good character, integrity, adaptability, sense of humor, patience and self control
  • Compensation
    A salary of $300 a week, during employment room, board, wifi and laundry will be provided.
