  • Responsibilities

    Dates of Internship: 10/15/2018 - 1/6/2019

    The Museum Technician intern will assistant the Park’s Curator on the preservation of Gateway National Recreation Area’s museum and archive collections. The intern will assist with updating various accession records; matching field and laboratory notes with related specimens; sort and clean specimens as required with guidance; catalog specimens and complete records in the museum collection database following established National Park Service procedures; makes minor repairs on specimens with guidance; maintain collection storage and laboratory areas; prepares specimens for storage following established organizational principles and procedures; makes photographic records of objects as required; monitor the environmental conditions of museum storage areas; and assist in maintaining museum exhibits. We will make every effort to expose the intern to all aspects of cultural resource and museum collection management as practiced by the NPS.

    Location Description:

    Park’s headquarters located at Fort Wadsworth in Staten Island. The location is accessible by mass transportation.

    Training Provided:

    The member will attend all available training both in person and on line through NYHP and the NER Museum Services Center.

    Educational/Recreational Opportunities:

    The member will informed of educational and recreational opportunities throughout the park and the surrounding area. The member will be invited to participate in cultural
