  • Responsibilities

    Help empower independence and personal growth in children and adults with disabilities this summer. Located on 200 acres in the thumb of Michigan we have the perfect setting for adventure and discovery. Our various activities are accessible to all and include high ropes w/ zipline, climbing wall, treehouse, sports & rec, creative arts, horseback riding, outdoor education, barn & garden, primitive camping, kayaking, boating, swimming, and fishing. Started in 1990, The Outpost focuses on outdoor living skills and nature appreciation. Campers and staff live in platform tents without electricity, cook food over a fire, and go on trips to Michigan State Parks. Started in 2014, Life TREX teaches transitional living skills to campers on the ASD spectrum age 14-27 through various camp activities. Campers and staff live in platform tents without electricity, cook food over a fire, and go on trips into the local community. Started in 2017, Adventure Camp focuses on gaining confidence and teamwork through participation in all high adventure activities on-site at The Fowler Center and a rafting trip in Northern Michigan. Campers and staff live in platform tents without electricity and eat meals in our dining hall. All programs must:

    • Create a welcoming and engaging atmosphere for campers
    • Live in platform tents with campers
    • Teach & promote Leave No Trace principles for campers
    • Engage campers in daily activities
    • Model positive peer relationships for campers
    • Participate in community living

    Leadership positions available if applicants have past experience.

  • Qualifications
    • All staff must be 18 and have graduated high school
    • Must be interested in working with children and adults with disabilities
    • Experience in rustic camping and outdoor living skills: setting up tents, hiking, campfire cooking, and leave no trace principles
    • Enthusiasm, compassion, integrity, adaptability, good character, fine communication, sound decision-making, and teamwork skills are a must
    • Willingness to live and work in a fast-paced outdoor environment
    • Current American Red Cross CPR/First Aid- can get during staff orientation
    • Current driver’s license and ability to attain chauffeur’s license
  • Compensation
    $250 per week plus meals & lodging. Laundry and limited WIFI available. Paid training.
