    Women’s Entrepreneurship Day

With a variety of calendar days dedicated to various causes across the globe, one might ask: Why does the world need Women’s Entrepreneurship Day and ChooseWOMEN, and why should I support this initiative?

The answer lives and is vindicated within these basic facts: Women account for 85 percent of consumer purchases and control $20 trillion in worldwide spending. At the same time, they perform 66 percent of the world’s work and only earn 10 percent of the world’s income.

Women’s Entrepreneurship Day (WED) is a movement that carries throughout the year in support of women in business globally. WED ignites women leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs to initiate startups, drive economic expansion, and advance communities worldwide. WED is celebrated in 144 countries and 65 universities and colleges internationally, with a growing global legion of 333 global ambassadors activated in every continent! The WED mission is to empower the 4 billion women worldwide to be catalysts for change and uplift over 250 million girls living in poverty worldwide.

We are proud to share that New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, and Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney proclaimed Women’s Entrepreneurship Day an official day on November 19th annually. The U.S. House of Representatives annually recognizes the WEDO movement on November 19th as “A Day in Honor of Women Entrepreneurs” under the leadership of Congresswoman Grace Meng.

Our WED achievements this year include funding 500 Syrian refugee girls to attend high school in Jordan. In New York City at the United Nations, WED donated 500 microloans to impoverished women so they can start their own business. In Oman, our WED ambassador announced an initiative to empower women and girls by using their vote against arranged marriage. And in Uruguay, a partnership with a local university offered 20 scholarships to the girls present at the WED summit. Our Philippines team educated 1000 rural women with financial literacy – all over the world our Ambassador team is making an impact! We are excited to announce these inspirational people are supporters of our movement include: Paola Santana (Founder & CEO Social Glass, Co-Founder Matternet), Shanu Hinduja (Chairperson Hinduja Foundation U.S., Co-Chair Hinduja Global Solutions), Shari Staglin (CEO Staglin Family Vineyard & Co-Founder One Mind who has raised and donated over $1 BILLION for mental health causes), Kathleen King (Founder Tate’s Bake Shop Sold to OREO giant Mondelez International for a yummy $500 million!), Eileen Murray (Co-CEO Bridgewater Associates, The world’s largest hedge fund), Shelley Zalis (Founder OTX Global Technology Consulting Firm, CEO/Founder The Female Quotient), Emma Channing (CEO & General Counsel Satis Group – The Premier ICO Advisory Firm), Latisha Taylor (CEO/Founder Health Measured.net), Adi Eckhouse (Cofounder & CEO Realface, the Creators of facial recognition on your iPhone!), Kate Rogers (CNBC Small Business & Entrepreneur Reporter).
