    DOROT alleviates social isolation among the elderly and provides services to help them live independently as valued members of the community. We serve the Jewish and wider community, bringing generations together in a mutually beneficial partnership of elders, volunteers and professionals.

    Position Overview:

    DOROT’s summer college interns, both paid and unpaid positions, start in June 2018 and run for the duration of the summer. Internships are offered through a variety of departments and are well matched for college students interested in careers in non-profit management, education, social media, social work, and gerontology. Interns have a direct impact on the organization and hold significant responsibilities that contribute to departmental goals. Though the responsibilities may vary, all DOROT interns gain an educational understanding of social isolation amongst the elderly as well as substantive work and project management experience.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Visiting and going on outings with older adults to alleviate social isolation
    • Data entry and analysis
    • Organizing events for volunteers and older adults
    • Phone outreach
    • Data entry and analysis

    DOROT provides a comprehensive two-day orientation and interns are exposed to a wide variety of programs and career paths during the internship.

  • Qualifications

    About you:

    • College student entering Sophomore, Junior or Senior year in Fall 2018
    • Prior volunteer experience
    • Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Word
    • Experience with databases preferred but not essential
    • Well-organized and able to juggle multiple responsibilities
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • An interest in learning about working with older adults and social service nonprofits
