  • Responsibilities

    Kidsave advocates for older orphans and foster youth (ages 9-17) living in government care who are often forgotten. Kidsave provides services and programs to communities worldwide to help find loving, permanent connections and families for foster children and orphans.

    The Summer Miracles Program brings Colombian orphans to the United States for four to five weeks during the summer to stay with host families. During that time, host families and Kidsave advocate to identify adoptive families for the children.

    Based in the Los Angeles Office, the Kidsave Summer Miracles Program Intern will be responsible for supporting the Summer Miracles Program Manager and local Volunteer Coordinators in implementing the Summer Miracles program throughout the United States.

    Program Administration and Management

    • Respond to prospective host families, volunteers, and general program inquiries
    • Follow up and track host families’ paperwork and program requirements
    • Assist in tracking RSVP's for orientations, trainings, support sessions, and advocacy events
    • Create, maintain, and update program materials, spreadsheets, and files for children and families
    • Coordinate orientation meetings, and Kidsave Program and Advocacy Trainings
    • Complete written translation of documents and oral translation as needed with Colombian office, children, and chaperones
    • Assist with travel arrangements and transportation for participants
    • Research and attend outreach meetings and events with community members to recruit hosts and adoptive families for program participation
    • Maintain materials needed for outreach and recruitment events, meetings, and conferences
    • Assist in tracking, responding to, and managing visiting families

    Advocacy

    • Edit and update children’s bios on the website
    • Create, maintain, and update community and advocacy flyers
    • Update and maintain online photo galleries and calendar for program orientations, trainings, support sessions, outreach, and advocacy events
    • Pursue opportunities for local press coverage and stories about the children
    • Conduct interviews of Kidsave kids and families to produce hosting and success stories with photos and videos

    Fundraising and Event Planning

    • Support family fundraising, and planning and implementation of community fundraisers
    • Attend and assist with organizing and implementing weekend advocacy events which occur in the month of July.
    • Prepare materials, research venues, food, and activities for the advocacy events. Solicit donations for event-related activities as needed
    • Reach out to volunteers to assist with advocacy events and other volunteer opportunities.

    About you:

    • Excellent organizational, administrative, and interpersonal skills
    • Highly motivated, dependable, and conscientious self-starter
    • Ability to multi-task and perform work in a fast-paced team environment
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to build relationships and program credibility with families and children
    • Advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe Photoshop
    • Strong organizational, supervisory, and administrative skills
    • Written and spoken Spanish required
    • Interest in Kidsave’s mission
    • Commitment to 6 months preferred (Jan-May 15 part-time, May 15-Aug 15 full-time)
