Giving Forward is testing out a new concept in education, Pods with Pod Leaders. Many school districts have hybrid return to school plans, particularly for middle and high school classes.
We belive that this is an opening to have a service that provides a positive social impact by allowing kids to excel, even in a hybrid learning environment.

Since school won't be full time in-class, we feel the kids would benefit from an in-person learning dynamic for both social and academic reasons.

We are still defining what a "pod" really is but having someone other than a parent there to facilitate learning (based on the curriculum) would be great.

Think of it as an academic coach or counselor, as opposed to a tutor.

The plan would be to meet at one of the parent houses for a few hours a week (late afternoons or early evenings, with parents there) fully masked and as socially distanced as possible, review the day's curriculum and homework and add a bit of structure to the academic activity.

We have no illusions that the academic coach or counselor would know the curriculum backwards and forwards, only that they use their own intelligence, the resources provided by the schools and Google to hold the kids hands adding value over the kids being completely on their own.

Areas of focus would be different for each pod and we might mix it up with different pod coaches for each or have sharp recent graduates from college cover several subjects.

• Local to the pods being set up (initial tests will be in Scarsdale, NY)
