The Dow Jones Technology engineering team is looking for lead software engineers who have a passion for building cutting edge mission-critical software solutions.Our platform supports a dynamic business that provides the world’s most comprehensive collection of news and data to a broad spectrum of enterprise clients.  You will need to bring keen analytical skills and a passion for creative problem-solving. We are looking for engineers who are unafraid of learning new technologies. The Dow Jones Technology team has embarked on a strategic investment program to modernize its content publishing platforms and Web API/Database applications to allow them to build on past successes and enhance them for the future. You will report into the Engineering team that is aligned with the Professional Information Business product line within Dow Jones.

    Responsibilities:

    • Assists in necessary software investigation, analysis and evaluation to determine solution feasibility. 
    • Develops their productivity skills by learning source control, editors, the build system, and other tools as well as testing best practices
    • Capable of taking well-defined sub-tasks and completing these tasks.
    • Develops knowledge of a single component of our architecture
    • Develops module specifications and supports data design.
    • Participates in business analysis, systems analysis/consulting, and systems design.
    • Makes use of application development standards for designing, building and maintaining applications, applications components, and common services including the use of standard languages and tools.
  • Qualifications

    Core requirements:

    • Excellent verbal & written skills to interact, build and maintain effective relationships with peers. This also includes communication channels like email, chat, scrum boards, wiki pages etc.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving and programming skills, with high responsibility and care of the details
    • Ability to identify and isolate problem areas within the entire application flow and to investigate the root cause and implement solutions.
    • Self-organized, working well independently and in a geographically diverse team environment.
    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Desired skills

    Required Skills/Experience:

    • Experience Microsoft .NET building high-performance web applications.
    • Experience with mainstream front-end technologies such as Javascript, TypeScript, React, Redux and CSS, CSS in JS.
    • Experience with JSON and XML data interchange formats. XSL and XSLT are a plus.
    • Strong Object Oriented Design and Programming skills for designing, building and maintaining clean, readable, efficient, reusable, and reliable code
    • Hands-on application troubleshooting and debugging skills, including using tools such as, Visual Studio debugger, Windows Event Viewer and Browser based debugging tools..
    • Experience with current development technologies, methodologies and workflows including CI/CD, Agile development (Scrum, JIRA), Git, Jenkins
    • Experience writing unit tests using NUnit, Mocha, Karma.JS.

    Desired Skills/Experience (would be a plus):

    • Experience designing and deploying applications in a cloud-based environment. 
    • Experience in RESTful API design, develop & support and JSON API standards.
    • Experience with Behavior Driven Development, cucumber and gherkin.
    • Experience in the development of web applications & APIs using technologies such as NodeJS, Nginx, Apache, Tomcat.
    • Experience with Single Page Applications using React/React-Static/Gatsby/Nextjs
