The Dow Jones Technology team has embarked on a strategic investment program to modernize its content publishing platforms and Web API/Database applications to allow them to build on past successes and enhance them for the future. You will report into the Engineering team that is aligned with the Professional Information Business product line within Dow Jones.

The project involves migrating a large scale, high performance OnPremise SQLServer database into the AWS cloud. The database is used for high volume data processing of our external providers of Company and Executive data sets. The project will involve researching and choosing the best database solution to provide a scalable and highly-available solution spread across Amazon regions for fault tolerance and disaster recovery (DR). While SQLServer RDS may be the most straightforward option, the project should involve evaluation of AWS native database solutions like Aurora or DynamoDB for the best fit. The work would involve learning and using the AWS Data Migration Service (DMS) and AWS Schema conversion tool (SCT) to migrate the database components and data. This is a great opportunity for someone who is excited about technology and has a strong interest in learning and experimenting with the latest cloud technologies.

In this role you will:

• Understand application architecture for the purposes of database migration into the Amazon AWS cloud.
• Analyze database solutions in the cloud including Amazon AWS RDS, Amazon Aurora and other NoSQL options for best fit for the application migration.
• Learn the use of cloud database migration and analysis services for schema conversions and import/export tools.

• Working towards a bachelor's degree in Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field, with at least two years of school successfully completed.
• Programming experience in one or more of the following languages; C/C++, C#, Java, Node.js, python
• Interest in cloud technologies and cloud managed services. Experience with Amazon AWS a plus.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with Amazon AWS or other cloud platform a plus
• Experience with Microsoft SQLServer Management Studio a plus
