Summary Statement In this internship you will build your resume while gaining first-hand knowledge of how the nations largest non-profit organization works, develops and conveys its programs and messages to 38 million members across the United States. This is a paid position for the spring 2016 semester, and students must be able to commit to 25-35 hours per week. This internship includes, but is not limited to supporting communications, operations, research and other duties. As an intern, you will gain valuable work experience with an opportunity to expand your knowledge of our programs and operations. Responsibilities Include: * Work closely with the staff in the Programs department to support SVP and Programs teams with timely operational, communications, marketing and research. * Prepare materials utilizing PowerPoint, Word documents, and Excel spreadsheets. * Maintain confidentiality of all AARPs internal information * Gather research and compile information on a variety of topics.This could include online searches, reviewing publications, handling databases and accessing library materials. Responsibilities * Intern must be currently enrolled in his/her junior or senior years in an accredited college or university, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 * Two references (from a professor and someone familiar with the interns work) and one writing sample are required * A copy of the final transcript * Background & Drug Screening are required To Apply for this Opportunity * Submit a current resume in response to the specific posted job, or indicate your preferred work location (were in all 50 states and U.S. territories); * A writing sample (please attach to with your application) * A cover letter detailing the areas of interest to you for an internship at AARP; * Two letters of recommendation from a college or university professor/instructor and a manager who is familiar with your work; * An official copy of a current semester transcript detailing the number of accumulated credits and your current GPA (minimum GPA required of 3.0) * Submit to background clearance and drug testing.
