Summary Statement The New Jersey State Office of AARP is seeking a paid intern to join its busy team, to assist with Community Outreach and Multicultural activities in their office. Responsibilities Critical to the success of this internship, the intern must successfully perform the following duties: Develop in-depth knowledge of issues; gather information and research topics; practice developing presentations, collateral materials, and talking points; Assist in volunteer coordination and will have a major role in supporting work with volunteers. He/she will be heavily engaged with volunteers involved at AARP events and interacting with members and public at public forums; Interact frequently with volunteers in key target areas and programs around the state and have some interaction with public/members that may be seeking information on AARP; Assist in identifying potential sites for speaking engagements or events and provide logistical support before, during, and after events for volunteers and staff; Perform tasks that are explained in advance with an opportunity for hands on instruction when needed;Work on assorted projects that are scheduled throughout the year with an opportunity for the intern to experience many different aspects of work ranging from meetings, listening sessions, public events, multicultural events, varied communication with volunteers/members, and event preparation Requirements Must be currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior working towards an undergraduate degree in areas of study such as social work, gerontology, communications or journalism, liberal arts or political science. Will consider all degrees and work related experience; must have a current GPA of 3.0 or higher. Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills; Bi-lingual in Spanish is highly desirable as this position supports multicultural outreach initiatives; Experience using social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter and You Tube; Computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and online search tools; Able to multi-task and work independently, as well as collaboratively; Able to work well with volunteers and diverse populations; Awareness of online practices that affect issues such as: privacy, confidentiality, liability, standards, ethics, safety, human rights, etc.; Commitment to the goals and priorities of AARP.
