Together with our charitable partner, the American Cancer Society, we work in Congress, state legislatures and local jurisdictions to support evidence-based policy and legislative solutions designed to eliminate cancer as a major health problem. Based in Washington, DC with offices throughout the country, ACS CAN works to encourage elected officials and candidates to make cancer a top national priority. Support ACS CAN Grassroots Manager in educating decision makers and the public about legislative and regulatory issues that impact cancer patients in Idaho. Intern will also support advocacy efforts on at the federal, state, and local level. Assist Grassroots Manager with outreach to community groups in Idaho to cultivate interest among these constituents in ACS CAN and our legislative agenda. This may include presentations to smaller community groups. Attend coalition meetings with Government Relations Director or Grassroots Manager to gain a better understanding of various issues and coalition dynamics related to tobacco control, oral chemotherapy fairness, and health/cancer care. Conduct research on ACS CAN Idaho social media platforms and work with Grassroots Manager to develop a plan to increase audience engagement and actions taken based on Facebook and Twitter insights. Participate in real world field work. Position Requirements: 1. Student will be able to integrate classroom learning, theory, and course content with their internship experiences. 2. Student will be able to identify, assess, and develop personal and professional strengths. 3. Student will be able to describe and explain work responsibilities and duties. 4. Student will be able to apply academic knowledge to solve practical, real-world problems in a professional setting. 5. Student will be able to articulate and demonstrate improvement in professional etiquette (including time management, dress code, formal versus informal protocols, etc). 6. Student will be able to develop professionally relevant competencies and relationships in a professional setting. 7. Student will be able to articulate and demonstrate team work, collaboration, and leadership. 8. Student will be able to articulate how the internship experiences align with career options, interests, and skills (i.e. how have experiences expanded, directed, or confirmed career options, interests, and skills). All Interns Must meet the following requirements: Full-time student, If you are an undergraduate student you have completed your freshman year of college; Have a minimum of a B average (cumulative 3.0 on 4.0 scale); Plan to continue their education in the following term/semester oNote: an internship assignment may coincide with the students last term/trimester, but student must disengage upon graduation. The following information must be submitted upon application: Resume Two references from academic/professional sources addressing the students credentials based on the internships skill requirements Recent transcript attesting to their GPA and standing as a full-time student Unpaid interns must also provide documentation of the participation in a bona-fide college intern program under which their ACS CAN internship either qualifies them to receive course credit OR fulfills a graduation/coursework requirement.
