Together with our charitable partner, the American Cancer Society, we work in Congress, state legislatures and local jurisdictions to support evidence-based policy and legislative solutions designed to eliminate cancer as a major health problem. Based in Washington, DC with offices throughout the country, ACS CAN works to encourage elected officials and candidates to make cancer a top national priority. New Mexico Intern Job Description: 1. Participate in advocacy campaign planning meetings with Grassroots Manager and Government Relations Director. 2. Assist in the creation and development of grassroots products and tools, including helping to write, edit and publish email communication and web content to help engage and motivate our grassroots volunteers to take action on our major legislative priorities and Cancer Votes campaign. 3. Assist with ACS CAN social networking and help produce content that will help recruit new members to our Facebook and Twitter networks. 4. Assist in ACS CAN volunteer recruitment, to include taking part in American Cancer Society events and reaching out to organizations that represent diverse communities. 5. Gain understanding of areas related to government relations in New Mexico and the composition of the NM Legislature. 6. Assist in data collection and analysis of tobacco industry contributions to candidate campaigns. 7. Provide research support to Grassroots Manager/Government Relations Director as needed. 8.
