    Communications Events & Outreach Internship Communications Events & Outreach Internship BACKGROUND The ACLU of Washington is pleased to offer a part-time summer internship to those who are interested in growing our reach. Located in downtown Seattle, the ACLU-WA works in the courts, legislature and media to support and advance civil rights and civil liberties. Our Communications Departments is responsible for media relations, education and outreach programs, special events, and publications to promote the ACLUs work. Our aim is to explain in clear, simple terms what peoples rights are, what the ACLU-WA is doing to defend and extend them, and why people should stand up for their rights. OVERVIEW Average hours per week are 15 20 hours with flexibility for actual days worked with some evenings required. Preferred start date is in early June with a flexible end date. The position is unpaid but interns are encouraged to earn credit for their time if they are in college. Responsibilities Include: Assist with planning, preparing materials, coordinating volunteers, event-night management and other tasks associated with ACLU-sponsored events. Assistance recruiting, scheduling and coordinating ACLU volunteers to represent ACLU-WA at conferences, forums and other outreach events. Overseeing/troubleshooting outreach functions and tabling some shifts at events. (Occasional weekend/evening hours required.) Researching community groups and events the ACLU might partner with. Assist with production of flyers, brochures, infographics, and other multi-media graphic design projects. Communicating with teachers, student clubs, and allied organizations about ACLU-WA information and programs via telephone and email. Basic office responsibilities such as mailings, processing requests for literature, photocopying, filing, etc. Various other Communications Dept. projects and duties as assigned. DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS Excellent writing and communications skills required. Applicants with reliable and insured personal vehicle desired. Applicants should have strong interests in civil liberties.
