Since 1984, Share Our Strength® has led the fight against hunger and poverty by inspiring and organizing individuals and businesses to share their strengths. Today, through the No Kid Hungry and Cooking Matters campaigns, Share Our Strength is ending childhood hunger in America by ensuring all children get the healthy food they need. No child should go hungry in America – we’re on our way to making that a reality and we want you to join us. We’re bold, creative, always open to new ideas, and 100% dedicated to our mission. If that sounds like you, we’d like you to consider becoming part of our team.

The Cloud Architect is a customer service-focused, creative leader, responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining Share Our Strength’s cloud-based infrastructure. That infrastructure includes data ingestion portals, which are connected to external data sources and a number of Software-As-A-Service (SaaS) platforms; a centralized data lake where data is indexed; and a collection of analytic tools, with the main one being Tableau. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, this individual collaborates with both internal and external stakeholders to support an organization of approximately 300 total staff. This role demands a strong technical expert with outstanding customer service, communications, and collaborative skills.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • TECHNICAL EXPERT: Working most closely with our in-house Data Engineer, the Cloud Architect must have the skills and experience commensurate with an AWS-certified Developer Associate, and understands and can help build cloud-ready applications using AWS tools. Sample projects that this person will be called upon to support may include:

    • Free Meal Finder – Share Our Strength operates an SMS chatbot to help families in need find food in their community. This tool is currently transitioning from a proprietary vendor platform to AWS Lex. The Cloud Architect may help lead that transition to Lex and work with a variety of technical and business owners to implement new features for the chat-bot, such as automated data ingestion, user opt-in features, and advanced aggregate reporting of user behavior.

    • Donor Data Warehouse – Share Our Strength uses a large number of tools and platforms to make it as easy as possible for donors to contribute to our mission. Working with a number of internal stakeholders, the Cloud Architect may help design and implement a donor data warehouse that consolidates data flows from across these different donor platforms and enables dynamic reporting.

    • SEASONED COMMUNICATOR: Bridging deltas between end users and the IT team, the Cloud Architect identifies and addresses impediments to user adoption. They must demonstrate empathy and urgency in responding to users’ issues, and demonstrate strong 1-on-1 written and verbal communication skills, especially in describing technical issues in lay terms and teaching new technologies and describing system outages and emergencies.

    • ACCOMPLISHED COLLABORATOR: The Cloud Architect leads by listening and has a leadership style that combines the best of technical competencies and customer service. They will work with a wide variety of stakeholders with an equally wide range of technical competence. The Cloud Architect will need to establish their expertise and build trust without drowning partners in technical jargon.
