Looking for the best summer ever? Join the Camp Matoaka Family and be a camp counselor!
Camp Matoaka is a premier girls’ camp on a beautiful lake in Maine. We are seeking awesome, responsible, young women to serve as mentors, instructors, teachers and role-models for our campers. Currently, we are seeking Art Instructors for Summer 2017!
Camp Matoaka is an overnight, summer camp in Maine. Situated on over 150 acres of flat, grassy playing fields, woodlands and lakefront, Matoaka’s facility is top-notch. More important than a great facility, Matoaka has a family-type atmosphere and is often described as being fun, spirited, warm and caring.
Campers range in age from 7-15 and come from across the country. A majority of our campers, as well as many staff, return each summer to a place they call “home.”
Each summer, we hire 120 staff to come and spend their summer in Maine. All of our staff specialize, and are well-qualified, in one of the myriad activities we have at camp.
Our staff are paid well and benefits include room, board, laundry, free internet access and a travel allowance. We are currently looking for female staff to join our Art Department from mid-June through mid-August.
Arts & Crafts Program:
An important aspect of the program is the fact that parents do not see the daily instruction process and therefore base their opinion of the department on what their daughters bring home at the end of the summer. It is therefore very important that campers have finished creative and interesting projects that can speak for the high level of instruction and competency of the staff.
Our Arts Center has south and north decks overlooking East Lake. The Arts Center contains a ceramics section for the Ceramics Department, a room for the Sewing Department, and the central Arts & Crafts area. These respective areas, and the equipment therein, are overseen by each Head of Department.
The Ceramics department has a ceramics studio with a kiln for firing and glazing ceramic products, and 3 electric pottery wheels.
The storage areas for the Arts and Crafts department have ample supplies to cover a wide range of projects: embroidery, leather work, drawing, painting, sculpting, tie dying, ceramics, mosaic, stained glass, jewelry making, collages, and other mixed-media projects.
Ceramics Program:
However, it is important to foster the campers’ own creativity and allow them to pursue any well thought-out project on individual bases. In addition, an important aspect of the program is the fact that parents do not see the daily instruction process and therefore base their opinion of the department on what their daughters bring home at the end of the summer.

Facilities:
Our ceramics studio has south and north decks overlooking East Lake. The entire Arts Center contains a darkroom for the Photography department, the ceramics studio, a room for the Sewing department, and the central arts and crafts area.
This ceramic studio houses three electric wheels, with foot-pedals to adjust the speed, as well as two large canvas-covered tables and a canvas-covered wedging table that provides ample work-space. The kiln is kept in a separate room.
Sewing Program:
Facilities:
The Sewing department is located in Matoaka’s 2400-square-foot Arts and Crafts Center and has 12 machines that are set up in the Sewing Room. All fabrics and sewing materials are provided by Camp Matoaka.
