    VISTA will assess the current volunteer program to look for opportunism to enhance the parks outreach and provide new and engaging opportunities across the 6 units of First State NHP. This position will have a special focus on exploring ways volunteers can help operate the parks first welcome center, and work with the park Natural Resources and Facilities Division to create projects that help implement the park’s trail plan. This position will also be responsible for developing and implementing an annual Volunteer appreciation event. In year two, the position will build on the efforts of year one by creating projects that promote service-learning for local youth organizations which may include Scouts of America, YMCA, Girl Scouts, etc. In year three, the position will continue to build on the efforts of year 1 & 2 while preparing important documents that will allow the park to continue their work after the program has concluded. These documents will include analyzing how the park currently tracks data entered the yearly reports to improve on accuracy and productivity.



    | | | Member Duties : Throughout this three-year program VISTAs will: Develop Volunteer Opportunities that teach fundamental skills such as operating equipment, computer software, leadership, etc. Expand the park’s volunteer program across the 6 units. Develop, implement and expand an annual volunteer appreciation event. Determine what type of activities or topics local youth organizations are interested in learning about or attending. Establish service-learning projects. Finalize the park’s standards of practice for volunteer management. Finalize the park’s standards of practice for tracking volunteer data and youth data needed for annual reporting.
