    Program Description

    Join us and learn about a career in land management and conservation programming while operating as a critical voice for access within our public lands. Youth Empowerment Stewards (YES) internships are seasonal, 12-week positions supported Conservation Legacy’s Stewards program. YES internships are available to individuals with a disability 18-26 years of age and Veterans up to age 35.

    Position Details

    Stewards Individual Placement Program (SIPP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. The YES program interns focusing on barriers to entry for individuals with disabilities in the outdoor workplace. This position will be working as a YES Intern with Golden Gate National Recreational Area.

    Golden Gate National Recreation Area is interested in hosting an intern to support the Accessibility Program Manager for all three sites (Golden Gate National Recreation Area/Muir Woods National Monument/Fort Point National Historic Site) The intern will learn about Accessibility in general and how to provide customer service to visitors with disabilities. The intern will also do site visits to different sites and assist on performing an inspection for accessibility compliance. The intern will also learn about the Beach Wheelchair Program, how to provide American Sign Language interpreters, how to do inspections of facilities and construction site to ensure they are fully accessible. They will also learn about how to provide an interpretive program to be accessible. Interns will also assist on scanning and filing documents electronically for future use. if time permits, interns will also meet and engage with Disabilities organizations in the Bay Area. This is an experience for interns to learn how the NPS is providing and making parks accessible.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • 18-26 years of age (maximum 35 years old for Veterans with valid DD-214)
    • US citizen or legal resident
    • Full vaccination against COVID-19 by the first day of employment and ability to provide proof of vaccination before starting
    • Flexibility, adaptability, and capacity to work in a fluid, changing work
    • Pass background checks: all offers of positions are conditional upon completion of an acceptable check of the National Sex Offender Public Registry and Federal and/or State criminal background
    • Expected to take a serious attitude toward safety.

    • High School Diploma or GED

    Preferred Requirements:

    • local candidate within 50-100 miles of park location
    • Valid drivers license and mode of transportation
