SAFETY MANAGER
JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary
We are a well-established mixed concrete producer with several plants throughout California and we have an immediate need for a well-rounded Health, Safety, Risk Manager. As a valued member of our team in this role, you will be responsible for the management, implementation, execution and sustainability of our compliance with health and safety federal and state laws and regulations requirements at our various facilities, and for the effective risk management of the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including the following; other duties may be assigned)

Update and implement all Health and Safety programs required for High Hazard Employer
Ensure effective execution of all required Health, Safety and Risk Management programs at all plants
Effectively communicate Health and Safety Company’s expectations to operations and corporate management and plant personnel at all levels
Develop and roll out required trainings and presentations
Ensure the Company’s full compliance with required programs
Prepare and distribute training materials for Safety talks
Track, verify and maintain records of employees’ EH&S trainings
Develop KPI’s and prepare periodic reports on plants’ H&S performance
Conduct field audits at our various plants and document the resolution of unsafe acts or unsafe working conditions
Participate in investigations and follow-up of incidents and accidents
Perform weekly sampling of JSA’s on select positions
Perform EH&S audits and evaluations of plants and employees on a random basis
Recommend corrective actions and ensure their timely implementation
Investigate and document root cause of all incidents and near misses, and promptly communicate these to Operations and HR Management
Assist plant managers in the preparation and maintenance of their OSHA 300 and 300A forms
Assist in the developing an effective Safety Incentive Program
Manage our risk insurance losses and associated program
Assist in developing KPI’s to measure the plants’ safety performance
Plans and manages the general health, safety, and loss control policies and procedures of the organization.
Monitors and evaluates the workplace to ensure compliance with governmental regulatory agencies.
Designs and directs safety training programs to reduce accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards.
Develops worker plans and policies for new employee safety orientation including skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment.
Studies, identifies, and reports causes of past accidents and develops recommendations and follow-up to prevent accident recurrences.

Effective organizational, planning and execution skills
Show strong leadership, persuasive and influencing skills
Effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language
Intermediate level in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Ability to travel to our plants, located mainly in the L.A. and Orange County areas with occasional travel to our Northern California plants
Maintain an ethical work conduct
Be able to demonstrate strong time management skills and communication proficiency
Demonstrate strong strategic thinking and decision making through effective problem solving and analysis
Supervisory Responsibility
This position entails some supervisory responsibilities.
Education/Experience
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university in relevant technical discipline or a
minimum of five to ten years directly related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in the construction, transportation or other similar industry
Formalized training in California OHSA and environmental requirements and regulations and related safety certifications
Demonstrated knowledge of California and Federal OSHA guidelines
Experience working in a multi-site environment
Ready mix industry experience is a plus
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations
Valid California driver’s license
CSM and/or CSP certifications are strongly preferred
Awards or accolades for accomplishments in safety improvements are a plus
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, starting at 7:00 am.
Travel
This position requires 50% travel.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
