Summary
As a valued member of our team, the Technician II will generally assist in the adjustment and repair of all series of motor truck and trailer equipment including, but not limited to the following: engines (gas and diesel), electrical/brake/cooling systems, transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, differentials/power dividers, PTO systems, starters/alternators, air conditioning systems (including cold and hot units), fan clutches, engine electronics (gas/diesel), power steering systems, steering gear box (manual and power), hydraulics and welding. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including the following; other duties may be assigned)

Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services on truck and trailer equipment
Diagnose, rebuild and repair fleet equipment (tractors, trailers, mixer units).
Prepare work orders both manually and on a computer
Identify warrantable repairs and document on repair order
Maintain work area appearance and safety
Work in a safe manner, per company, local, state and federal policies and regulations
Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units
Perform minor welding repairs.
Road test Vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
Raise trucks, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists
Inspect and repair brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
Willingness to travel as necessary to close geographical locations

Education/Experience
4 years practical experience with tractor trailer maintenance required
Proficient in the use of shop tools required
Proficient computer skills: knowledge of Fleet Management Systems, and email
Must be able to operate a manual transmission vehicle to determine if operating properly
Must provide own tools and toolbox
Effective communication skills in the English language in both written and verbal form
A valid driver’s license is required
Current CDL license with air brake certification preferred
ASE Certification and 608/609 certifications preferred
8 years of practical experience is preferred
Language Skills
Candidate must have effective communication skills in the English language in both written and verbal form.
Supervisory Skills
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. However serves as a mentor to other employees in the apprentice program and as required.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are subject to the shift assigned.

No travel is expected for this position.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, hazardous chemicals and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is regularly exposed to wet or slippery ground conditions. Employee must wear required personal protective equipment; up to and including safety vest, hard hat, ear protection, gloves and safety glasses.
