    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Summary

    As a valued member of our team, you will process orders for material or merchandise received by mail, telephone, or personally from customer or company employees by performing the following duties. This job deals with a high volume of calls.     Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including the following; other duties may be assigned)

    • Edits orders received for price and classification.

    • Informs customer of unit prices, shipping date, anticipated delays, and any additional information needed by customer.

    • Writes or types order form, or enters data into computer, to determine total cost for customer.

    • Records or files copy of orders received according to expected delivery date.

    • Ascertains credit rating of customer.

    • Checks inventory control and notifies stock control departments of orders that would deplete stock.

    • Routes orders to departments for filling and follows up on orders to ensure delivery by specified dates.

    • Computes price, discount, sales representative's commission, and shipping charges.

    • Prepares invoices and shipping documents.

    • Recommends type of packing or labeling needed on order.

    • Receives and checks customer complaints.

    • Confers with production, sales, shipping, warehouse, or common carrier personnel to expedite or trace missing or delayed shipments.

    • Attempts to sell additional product to customer.

    • Compiles statistics and prepares various reports for management.

    Education/Experience

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED); six to twelve months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Language Skills

    Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

    Computer Skills

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Contact Management systems; Order processing systems; Word Processing software and Spreadsheet software.
