    As the employment agency hiring temporary workers to be assigned to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, we are responsible for direct hiring and seeking candidates for the following temporary role at the Foundation.

    AgileOne designs and develops global workforce and procurement solutions for Fortune 1000 companies. Our focused and consultative approach provides solutions that streamline business processes and deliver efficiencies to human resources, procurement, and suppliers.

    The Foundation
    We are the largest nonprofit fighting poverty, disease, and inequity around the world. Founded on a simple premise: that people everywhere, regardless of identity or circumstances, should have the chance to live healthy, productive lives. By building a global and cultural workplace that supports greater diversity, equity, and inclusion — of voices, ideas, and approaches — together with our employees and partners, we can help all people improve their lives from poverty and health to education. **

    The Team
    As part of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), the Institute for Disease Modeling's (IDM) mission is to support global efforts to eradicate infectious diseases and achieve permanent improvements in health by developing, using, and sharing computational modeling tools and promoting quantitative decision-making. The IDM team is composed of research scientists and software developers who create advanced models of disease transmission, develop computational tools to inform global disease eradication policy, conduct statistical analyses of epidemiological and primary healthcare-related data to provide insights for programs and policy decisions, and identify and address critical knowledge gaps. IDM is a highly dynamic organization with a work environment that is defined by innovation and collaboration. As part of our work, we routinely collaborate with groups at the World Health Organization, UNAIDS, the Centers for Disease Control, PATH, ministries of health in low- and middle-income countries, as well as universities and research institutes across the globe.

    The Role
    We seek a Contractor to join the Malaria research team within IDM for a 6-month term. The candidate is expected to assist with literature review, data extraction, and data cleaning for a project assessing insecticide-treated net efficacy.
    Joining our team provides unique opportunities to interact with global-health policymakers, to collaborate with world-class researchers and non-profit organizations, and to contribute to more effective burden reduction and primary health strengthening strategies.

    What You'll Do:

    • ****Work closely with malaria team members to understand the efficacy and use of insecticide-treated nets as a malaria intervention, and how this intervention is implemented in IDM's mechanistic modeling framework.

    • Familiarize yourself with the goals of the project and data extraction norms thus far;

    • Complete a literature review to identify papers with data relevant to the project;

    • Read the key points of each paper to identify the relevant data to extract, if any;

    • Extract data into the master extraction spreadsheet provided;

    • If necessary, utilize digitization software to extract data from figures;

    • Double-check the already-completed extractions and correct any errors;

    • Use R or python to clean, process and interpret the data for further analysis.

    Your Experience, Skills and Abilities: ****

    • Demonstrated ability to work productively independently and as part of a team

    • Prior familiarity with literature reviews and data extraction;

    • Proficiency in using R or python for data cleaning;

    • Basic familiarity with GitHub for version control of scripts;

    • Attention to detail and high standard for quality of work product.

    • Experience working on collaborative projects.

    • Ability to initiate, organize, and manage research projects and clearly communicate analysis results to diverse audiences

    • Must be highly inquisitive, self-motivated and results oriented

    • Background in malaria a plus.

    Compensation is based on education, experience and internal equity.

    Hiring Requirements

    As part of our standard hiring process for new employees, employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
