    Oyster Shell Recycling Intern Fall 2018 (Unpaid) The Chesapeake Bay Foundation seeks an Oyster Shell Recycling Intern to be based at its Brock Environmental Center located in Virginia Beach, VA. About the Chesapeake Bay Foundation Established over 50 years ago, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) is the nations leading conservation organization dedicated solely to restoring and protecting the Chesapeake Bay, our nations largest estuary. With over 275,000 members, an annual operating budget of $26 million, and a $55 million endowment, CBFs 190 full time staff work in offices in Annapolis and Easton, MD; Richmond and Virginia Beach, VA; Harrisburg, PA; Washington, DC; and in 15 field education program locations across the Bay watershed. CBF's headquarters - the Philip Merrill Environmental Center in Annapolis is the worlds first USGBC LEED platinum building. In 2014, CBF opened the Brock Environmental Center in Virginia Beach; the Brock Center is the tenth certified Living Building and one of the most energy efficient, environmentally smart buildings in the world. Context of the Position The Oyster Shell Recycling Intern will assist Chesapeake Bay Foundation Oyster Restoration Center staff with collecting, transporting, and cleaning recycled oyster shells. Essential Functions Assist with collecting recycled oyster shells from area restaurants. Assist with transporting shells to and from public collection bins. Assist with staffing oyster roasts and other events to encourage shell recycling. Assist with transporting shell collected from these events to public collection bins. Assist with the recruitment of new restaurants, volunteers and oyster roasts in the area. Assist with cleaning collected oyster shells so they may be used for restoration purposes. Help research contacts to create a master list of all oyster roasts, restaurants, events, etc. with contact information to market the shell recycling program to potential new users. Professional Experience and Qualifications Successful candidate should be a college student majoring in environmental science, fishery science, aquaculture, marine affairs, or a related field. Applicants must be actively enrolled in college and working toward a degree. Self-initiative, the ability to work independently, as well as with a team and excellent written and oral communication skills are required. A candidate with experience with shellfish aquaculture and/or spat-on-shell is preferred. We seek a creative thinker interested in learning about the Chesapeake Bay as well as furthering the Foundations mission to "Save the Bay. The internship will take place in autumn 2018. Exact start and end dates are negotiable. The successful candidate must have reliable transportation. Their home work space will be at the Brock Environmental Center in Virginia Beach.
