POSITION OVERVIEW: Responsible for operations at a facility where fruit is received, inventoried, processed and ripened. Responsible for fruit ordering and LTR ordering and delivery. Plans ripening based on coordination with sales for fruit requirements and with other distribution centers regarding inventory. Responsible for the quality of the ripening in accordance with customer expectations for color and temperature. Has some sales and customer support functions. This position requires 24 Hour, 7 days a week on call availability due to the continuous nature of the ripening process and the costs associated with loss of fruit or inability to service our customers due to breakdowns.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plan, direct, execute and monitor the product inventory requirements, fruit ordering, LTR forecasting and the ripening process. Establishing and maintaining ripening schedules, room monitoring and adjustments and the coordination of fruit availability with the sales requirements. Responsible for the quality of ripening in terms of customer preferences for color and temperature.

Supervise the loading and unloading of incoming trailers of fruit, including fruit inspections. Control of inventory on a daily basis.

Assist in servicing and retaining existing accounts.

Ensure quality evaluations of incoming and outgoing fruit are carried out and recorded according to requirements and reports on unusual fruit, pallet or packaging appearance and/or behavior.

Ensure compliance with Corporate food safety guidelines. This includes training and knowledge of GMP and HACCP/Food Safety guidelines and the application of these guidelines in day to day activities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Associates degree or equivalent experience required.

3-6 years in produce operations/handling preferred.

Understanding how produce/fruit behaves under different conditions, the effects of temperature, etc.

Experience processing/ripening bananas highly preferred.

Experience in inventory control and quality assurance are also helpful.

Strong integrity and work ethic.

Ability to collaborate and work as a team across functions.

Sense of urgency and follow through.

Excellent communication skills.

Ability to interact at all levels of the organization – both customer and Chiquita.

Flexibility in work schedule is essential, with availability required beyond standard business hours, including weekends and holidays.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment as well as 55 degrees’ warehouse environment.

Must be able to repeatedly lift 45 Lbs. up to 80 inch off the ground.

Incumbent may stand for long periods of time.

The banana rooms are long and narrow with only an opening in the front - Incumbent must be able to perform some duties in confined spaces.

Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of normal workday.

Stooping, bending, twisting, lifting, pulling, pushing, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties.
