The Air Force Research Laboratory’s Applied Analytics Branch (AFRL/RIED) seeks a highly motivated early career professional to conduct scientific research and technology development activities in support of Air Force targeting software development. This position is located at the Information Directorates Rome, New York research site. This is a permanent position.
Potential research areas include:
- Application of AI/ML technology for AF targeting software systems
- Computational modeling of dynamic environments utilizing game engine technology
- Development of software and hardware for unique visualization technology utilizing AR/VR headsets
- Coding and modification of software for intelligence data processing
- Software development for intelligence data testbeds
- Mathematically-based simulation and modeling approaches that are applicable to military operations.
Position duties include but are not limited to:
- Develop expertise in Air Force (AF) targeting operations.
- Apply sound technical solutions to AF targeting challenges.
- Provide entry level engineering support to RIED programs and research areas.
- Assist in technical design and data analysis for various RIED projects.
- Execute a variety of developmental duties designed to develop knowledge and skill in applying general computer science, methods and techniques.
- Performing computer science tasks of limited scope and difficulty.
- Foster collaboration with industry and government partners.
- Keep abreast of emerging technologies and professional developments to maintain current in the field.
- Use computers/computer software such as analysis tools and project tracking programs to solve software development problems and facilitate work.

Required Qualifications
- United States Citizenship

- Position subject to random drug testing
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD TS/SCI clearance
- Knowledge of computer operations and standard office software applications.

- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to accurately document, report, assess situations, and make informed judgments.
- Professional knowledge of theoretical foundations of computer science, including digital computer systems architecture and systems software organization.
- Professional knowledge of computer science and related disciplines to design, develop and adapt scientific methods and techniques to recommend solutions for computer problems.
- The ability to analyze, interpret and apply computer science procedures in a variety of situations and recommend effective solutions to senior scientists.
