    POSITION DETAILS

    Stewards Individual Placements (SIP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. SIP in partnership with the Congaree National Park seeks two interns who work with park staff to restore physical navigational signs and markers throughout a vast trail network at the park, which is comprised of over 20 miles of land trails and 12 miles of water (canoe) trails.

     

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

    • Performing backcountry hiking operations with limited supervision
    • Answering informal visitor questions
    • Performing trailing clearing required to reach navigational signs
    • Safe use of hand and power tools
    • Water navigation via canoe or kayak
    • Provide accurate and reliable information about trail conditions and issues to supervisor

     

     

     

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Able to hike multiple miles in varying conditions
    • Good customer/visitor service skills
    • Public speaking skills

     

     

     PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Basic first aid/CPR/AED certification preferable
    • Enjoys working as a member of the team
    • Excellent problem-solving skills preferable
    • Canoe/kayak experience preferable
    • GPS/GIS experience preferable

     

     

    BENEFITS:

    • Position is eligible for an AmeriCorps education award upon successful completion of the program. Value of education award is $3097.50 (pre-tax).
    • Living Allowance: $500/week (pre-tax)
    • Specialized training in: Communication skills training, subject matter training, site orientation, and safety training
