CRBC WaterCorps Intern
Position Details:
Stewards Individual Placements (Stewards) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. Stewards in partnership with the Clackamas River Basin Council are seeking an intern who will support water quality and habitat improvement projects in the Clackamas basin. This position entails assisting with on-the-ground restoration efforts, office-based project planning, and outreach efforts designed to support these programs.
Position Responsibilities will include:
- Participate in bi-weekly water quality monitoring in five Clackamas basin streams.
- Assist with eDNA sampling throughout the Clackamas basin.
- Contribute to riparian restoration through planting, non-chemical weed management, and site assessment and monitoring.
- Assist with volunteer stewardship events in the Clackamas basin.
- With the Clackamas River Basin Council staff support, assist with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data collection and mapping for restoration and outreach projects.
- Assist with watershed health education programming in high school classrooms and on field trips. This includes both assisting with program delivery and curriculum building.
- Participate in landowner outreach for future in-stream restoration projects and attend project tours with landowners alongside CRBC staff.
- Participate in CRBC’s drone program and learn from CRBC staff how to operate drones for restoration and outreach purposes.
- Assist with pesticide reduction campaigns for water quality improvement in the Clackamas watershed.
- Assist with outreach efforts to promote water quality, climate resilience and habitat restoration through social media, blogs, and newsletter posts.
Minimum Requirements:
- Valid driver's license recognized by Oregon or Washington and a reliable motor vehicle.
- Basic computer literacy is desired
- Willing to undergo and pass a required criminal history check.
- A strong interest in a career in natural resource conservation science and/or community engagement.
- You must be eligible to serve in AmeriCorps State & National direct Service programs (must not have served more than 4 terms in AmeriCorps).
- You must be available to work a 40-hour week for the 26-week term
- You must be between 18 and 34 years of age.
- You must have received a High School Diploma or GED
- You must be a member of a federally-recognized Indian Tribe, Band, or Village; Alaska Native; or meet one of the following descriptions:
- Persons who possess at least one-half degree Indian blood derived from Tribes Indigenous to the United States.
- Descendants of Members of Federally-Recognized Indian Tribes, Bands or Communities who were residing on any Indian Reservation on June 1, 1934 – shown by completing BIA Form 4432.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Lived experience or working experience working in the natural resource field.

- This position comes with basic training in GIS mapping for restoration and outreach programs.
- Experience with drone use by a Certified Commercial Drone Pilot is provided.
- Water quality sampling and eDNA sampling training is provided.
- This internship includes work party leadership training and safety training for volunteer stewardship events.
- Basic restoration techniques are provided including how to plant trees for restoration purposes, native and invasive plant identification, weed specific eradication protocols, and riparian project monitoring techniques.
- Intern will have opportunities to job-shadow with natural resource professionals from partner organizations including the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Portland General Electric, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Johnson Creek Watershed Council and others. Experiences with partner organizations include fish hatchery tours, fish identification and counting at hydropower facilities, macroinvertebrate sampling, wildlife surveys, and other career building activities.
