    POSITION DETAILS

    Stewards Individual Placement Program (SIPP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. SIPP in partnership with the National Park Service is seeking an intern who will support the Gulf Coast Invasive Plant Management Team (IPMT) program on a variety of tasks. The position will primarily office-based with some opportunities for fieldwork and travel to field offices and/or parks.

     

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

    • Work with ArcGIS Online to summarize data and produce tools for parks
    • Streamline data collection and analysis
    • Assist with website updates
    • Development of best management practices (BMPs) for treating invasive plant species
    • Assist with annual reporting
    • Assist with protocol updating and development
    • Some travel to field offices and parks

     

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Knowledge and experience with the Windows environment, internet research, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel
    • Knowledge of terrestrial ecosystems including invasive plant species
    • Some knowledge of ArcGIS for Desktop (10.5+ preferred) and/or ArcGIS Pro

     

     PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Strong experience with written communication
    • Experience creating cartographic products, including static and web products

     

    BENEFITS:

    • Position is eligible for an AmeriCorps education award upon successful completion of the program. Value of education award is $5,920 (pre-tax).
    • Living Allowance: $519/week (pre-tax)
    • Exposure to invasive plant management and GIS within a regional office that supports parks within AL, GA, KY, LA, MS, NC, SC, TN, TX, and the Caribbean
    • On the job training will be offered for tasks specific to our needs
