  • Responsibilities

    The Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist will be responsible for improving the well-being of the center residents who have illnesses or disabilities. This will be done through treatment services and recreation activities by using: sports, arts, crafts, dance, music, and other techniques to reduce stress, improve function, and build confidence in the residents, while observing and documenting their reactions, participation, and progress. In addition to facilitating the center operations and care to our residents who requires rehabilitation, the CTRS will also, support the company's mission, vision, core values, and provide excellent customer service to associates, residents, visitors, and guests. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Must be an outgoing, friendly person who has a strong drive to help those with serious injuries or illnesses.
    • Develops and maintains recreational and avocational group program/activities to promote social skills training, sensory/motor development and ability to achieve their maximum potential in the community.
    • Schedule appointments for residents and monitor appointment book(s), daily or as needed.
    • Schedules and implements new cultural, athletic, educational and therapeutic performances, workshops and activities that meet the needs and interests of all residents.
    • Facilitates community relations and program support for the implementation of activities, ensuring safety and quality.
    • Partners with organizations that provide recreational opportunities.
    • Meet with new residents and develop and document individual resident activity plan by determining interests, abilities and needs.
    • Plan and supervise residents during trips, outside activities and special events.
    • Perform minimal cleaning responsibilities of equipment and work areas.
    • Evaluates patients and programs for progress, quality, safety and effectiveness.
    • Coordinate and supervise volunteer staff, if needed.
    • Prepare and submit patients'' reactions and progress reports, confer with treatment team.

    Required Skills

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENT:

    • Ability to drive large passenger vehicles.
    • Perform general van inspection prior to each use.
    • Frequent sitting, standing, bending, lifting, grasping, pushing, pulling, and moving intermittently during working hours.
    • Subject to frequent interruptions and distractions.
    • Willing to work beyond normal working hours and in other positions temporarily, as needed.
    • Attend and participate in continuing educational programs.
    • Must be capable of performing the essential job functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
    • Must be able to relate positively and favorably to residents, families, and outside agencies and to work cooperatively with other associates.
    • May be subject to infectious diseases, substances, contaminated articles, cuts, bruises, falls, odors, etc.
    • Must be able to function independently, have personal integrity, have flexibility, and the ability to work effectively with or without other personnel and co-workers.
    • Ability to remain calm and cope with the mental and emotional stress of this position. OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
    • Understand, comply with, and promote rules regarding resident''s rights.
    • Maintain an orderly, confidential, and safe work environment; in addition, to HIPPA guidelines.
    • Practice universal precautions at all times.
    • Adhere to all company and departmental policies and procedures.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Required Experience

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in psychology or physiology and/or Certification in related field; along with, National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).
    • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and of good moral character.
    • Entry level computer and office equipment knowledge required.
    • Must have strong organizational skills.
    • Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance, as required.
    • Must be able to follow and/or provide strong communication skills effectively through written and oral delivery in a manner appropriate for a healthcare/office setting.
    • Must be able to problem solve, if needed.
    • Must meet all local health regulations and pass post-employment exam, if required.
