Principal Full Stack Engineer - REMOTE

Why you want to work at Flexion:

We’re looking for a Principal Full Stack Engineer with expertise in .Net (C#), React, Google Cloud Platform and an unwavering passion for working in autonomous, cross-functional, self-organized teams to build complex systems using lean, agile mindsets—this means delivering incremental business value with each sprint and enabling options at all scales. For this project, you and your team will be modernizing a critical state government system and helping to improve the lives of millions of state residents.

At Flexion (an agile software company that’s been delivering excellence for over 24 years), our company culture is built on autonomy, trust, and transparency. We empower teams to remain autonomous and self-organized by hiring people who can solve complex problems by functioning collaboratively—this means lending a hand and flexing your multi-skilled muscles (business application software engineering, database engineering, DevSecOps, security engineering, coaching, etc.) as needed. Every member within a cross-functional team is a leader who takes responsibility for the entire team’s success, which mirrors the company’s overall flat structure.

    What the job looks like:

We are looking for a Principal Full Stack Engineer with strong and varied development and technical leadership skills and a strong inclination to actively collaborate with team members to deliver solutions. You’ll be part of a multi-disciplinary, agile application development team tasked with modernizing an enterprise government system. The project work is primarily remote but may require some client on-site work estimated at <5%. We engage in all-day interdisciplinary pairing and ensemble programming (mobbing) in Zoom.

    • Being a primary point of engineering, design and accessibility contact to our client

    • Facilitating the team to achieve option-enabling architecture supporting the delivery of narrow slices of user value

    • Facilitating the continuous elimination of tech and design debt

    • Working with your team, supporting agile engineering practices such as delivering small narrow slices of functionality, Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment, and Infrastructure as Code

    • Working with UX/UI Designers, DevSecOps Engineers, Full Stack Software Engineers, Data Engineers and Data Analysts to modernize a 50 year old legacy system

    • Tackling a wide variety of technical problems

    • Exercising your full tool-belt of skills and experience

Why we want to hire you:

You can design small pieces as you go, while still thinking about how they fit into the whole. You welcome change as a positive thing (instead of viewing it as “rework”) and never look at anything you deliver as “final.” You understand when “good enough” really IS good enough, without ever compromising on the overall product quality. You understand that a focus on team health, communications and problem-solving are what creates a good working team. You love teaching and coaching others. You have read and have a strong alignment to our Flexion Fundamentals.

    You have:

    • Experience with and preference for working in healthy and productive agile environments (Scrum, Kanban, XP, Lean, etc.)

    • Led development teams building complex, secure, and scalable web applications and APIs

    • Minimum 10 years of full-stack software development experience using a variety of languages, tech stacks, and architectural approaches

    • 5 years of basic cloud DevOps and automated testing as part of agile development practice

    • 5 years experience with Google Cloud Platform

    • Experience teaching and coaching more junior engineers in software development.

    • Preference for pairing or ensemble programming (mobbing) with other developers daily

    • BS (or higher) in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent work experience

    • Advanced knowledge and experience with .Net (C#) and React

    • Experience building service-oriented APIs

    • Experience building applications that integrate application logging, monitoring and alerting

    • Experience solving complex problems and implementing solutions for performance and scalability

Nice to have knowledge and experience:

    • Experience modernizing legacy mainframe systems desired

    • Experience with Jest, Cypress, and/or pa11y

    • Basic solution proposal and architectural/design diagramming experience

    • Technical interviewing experience

At Flexion, we live by these principles:

    • Speak openly and honestly with your colleagues and clients about problems and proposed solutions

    • Welcome and handle changing requirements and priorities with little or no warning

    • Collaborate online in small groups about 50% of the time

    • Encourage simple and minimal solutions that keep options open

    • Expect and vocally advocate for quality first

    • Learn new practices and techniques as the situation demands

    • Ensure the teams develop demonstrable software every week or two

    • Do what needs to be done to deliver the product or project without ego or attitude

    • Dig deep to find the root causes of problems so we can create the right solutions

    • Relentlessly improve yourself, your team, and your processes

The salary range for this position is $120,000- $160,000 annually.
