  • Responsibilities

    Under the direction of the Supervisor, Groundskeeper/Custodian is responsible for completing the required tasks such as mowing grass with power equipment or hand tools, load and unload mulch, dirt, gravel, etc. and trimming. Also maintaining quality control and contract retention for all grounds keeping/landscaper accounts assigned. The custodian will clean an assigned area in a safe and efficient manner while attending to the janitorial needs of the individuals working in that area.

     

    EDUCATION:

     

    High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

     

    WORK EXPERIENCE:

     

    One (1) year of landscaping experience preferred.

    Six (6) months of custodial experience is preferred.

     

    Performs cutting, mowing, trimming, mulching, and other landscaping/ground keeping related duties. Performs hands-on landscaping as required. Could perform any assigned task on continuous 40hr basis.

    Performs proper grounds maintenance and utilizes safety procedures.

    Performs proper work habits, grounds maintenance & janitorial cleaning methods, and safety procedures.

    Keeps all equipment in a clean, safe, running condition.

    Uses grounds keeping/landscaper mowers, trimmers, shovels, and equipment.(

    Dry and wet mops hard floors.

    Vacuums, spot cleans, or shampoos carpets when assigned.

    Strips or scrubs and refinishes floors when assigned

    Collects and transports refuse; cleans and relines refuse containers with plastic bags.

    Cleans sinks, tubs, showers and toilets. Polishes bright work and cleans mirrors. Empties trash, sweeps and mops floors with disinfectant cleaner. Replaces all paper and soap supplies.

    Dusts, cleans, and polishes furniture including beds, dressers, and lamps.

    Cleans top of windows, door frames and other high places

    Polishes stainless steel and other bright work. Cleans glass

    Cleans venetian blinds and drapes

    Uses floor machines, automatic scrubbers, wall-washing equipment, waste collecting equipment, etc.

  • Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • The individual must be familiar with ADA requirements to assist ASPT with their ADA transition plan.
    • Teamwork oriented with clear, direct communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with other agencies, groups, and users.
    • Basic knowledge of trails or trail assessment.
    • Must be willing to travel throughout Arizona.
    • Must be familiar with Word, Excel and Power Point.
    • Must be able to make public presentations.
    • Applicants must pass a criminal history background check.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • To successfully perform essential functions, the individual is required to sit, speak, hear, etc., and be able to safely lift 10 pounds on a routine basis.

    • Effectively communicate ideas and concerns as they arise directly to supervisors, colleagues, and organization staff. 
    • Appropriately represent the Arizona Conservation Corps, Arizona State Parks & Trails, and AmeriCorps to the public and partners at all times.
    • Learn and practice ‘Leave no Trace’ outdoor living techniques.

     

    SAFETY AND JUDGMENT: 

    • Effectively communicate danger to others in the form of either a warning of danger others may be encountering or a notification of personal distress, injury or need for assistance. Must be able to do so at a distance of up to 50 meters and in conditions with limited visibility or loud background noise such as darkness or high winds.
    • Effectively perceive, understand, and follow direction by others so that you will be able to successfully execute techniques to manage hazards. 
    • Stay alert and focused for several hours at a time while traveling and working in varied weather conditions. 
    • Respond appropriately to stress or crises.
    • If taking prescriptions medications, participants must be able to maintain proper dosage by self-medicating without assistance from others.

     

    SUBSTANCE FREE:

    • In accordance to a drug free workplace, alcohol and drugs are prohibited while participating in AmeriCorps and program activities and while on organization property.
