  • Responsibilities

    The Director of Production is responsible for the financial performance, operational execution, and forecast accuracy of the company’s installation production division. This role directs and coordinates all install project activity through Project Managers and field leadership while maintaining disciplined financial control, predictable scheduling, and consistent operational standards.

    This position provides leadership across Project Management, field execution, and production planning to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget while achieving company revenue and margin objectives. The Director of Production works closely with Executive Leadership, Accounting, Estimating, and Operations to align production performance with company growth goals.

    The role also plays a critical part in developing production leadership, including hiring, training, and mentoring Project Managers, Superintendents, and production support staff.

    Job Duties:

    Financial & Project Performance

    • Own the financial performance of the installation production business unit

    • Maintain accurate, real-time job-level P&L visibility across all active and closed projects

    • Direct and review job cost reporting, including:

    o Cost to date

    o Cost to complete (Cost of Completion)

    o Forecasted margin at completion

    o Target: Achieve final gross profit ≥3% above estimated GP (Edge baseline)

    • Identify margin erosion early and implement corrective action through weekly job cost

    reviews

    • Oversee and control Travel & Expense budgets for Project Managers and

    Superintendents

    • Ensure accurate tracking, approval, pricing, and billing of all change orders

    • Ensure monthly revenue targets are achieved through:

    o Balanced billing practices

    o Alignment of job progress and billings

    o Balance On Jobs (BOJ) execution and burn rate management

    • Partner with Accounting and Executive Leadership on:

    o Forecasting and accrual accuracy

    o Month-end and project close-out discipline

    Production Planning & Execution

    • Maintain and oversee the Production (BOJ) schedule and align manpower with backlog and revenue targets.
    • Assign projects to Project Managers and coordinate job start schedules.
    • Oversee deployment of Superintendents, field crews, and Field Partner subcontractors.
    • Monitor project progress to ensure work is executed efficiently and within schedule.
    • Resolve scheduling conflicts and production constraints across concurrent projects.

    Project Management Leadership

    • Lead, mentor, and develop Project Managers and production staff.
    • Establish expectations for project financial ownership, schedule management and adherence, and customer communication.
    • Ensure Project Managers follow company SOPs, manage contract requirements, and maintain accurate project documentation.
    • Support hiring, onboarding, and development of production personnel.

    Scheduling & Execution Oversight

    • Oversee scheduling and deployment of company Superintendents and field leadership

    • Balance manpower with:

    o Active backlog

    o Revenue targets

    o Project timelines and labor efficiency

    • Ensure work is properly sequenced to eliminate downtime, rework, and cost overruns

    • Resolve conflicts between scheduling, manpower availability, and project priorities

    • Maintain operational continuity across multiple concurrent projects

    Pre-Construction & Cross-Department Coordination

    Schedule and assign Field Managers to Yellow and Red projects

    • Ensure consistent execution of pre-construction processes, including:

    o “What to Expect” communication from Project Coordinators

    o Review of existing site conditions

    o Full understanding of scope, logistics, and contractual requirements by Project

    Managers

    • Confirm scope clarity, schedule alignment, and financial assumptions prior to job start

    • Collaborate with Estimating and VP of Operations to:

    o Validate labor assumptions

    o Set production rates

    o Identify value engineering (VE) opportunities

    • Ensure clean handoffs between Estimating, Sales, Safety, and Operations

    Safety, Quality & Field Operations

    • Promote and enforce a strong culture of safety across all production activities.
    • Ensure jobsite safety, compliance documentation, and quality standards are maintained.
    • Assist in investigating job-site incidents and implementing corrective actions when needed.
    • Maintain accountability for the performance of in-house crews and Field Partner subcontractors.

    Skills & Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience.

    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in commercial construction or roofing operations, with progressive leadership responsibility.

    • 10+ years of commercial construction experience, preferably in commercial roofing.

    • 5+ years of leadership experience managing project managers or production teams.
    • Strong understanding of project financial management, job costing, and construction operations.
    • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and production schedules.
    • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

    Certifications & Development

    OSHA 30 Certification preferred.
    Ability to obtain and maintain contractor licenses in states where the company operates.
    Participation in ongoing industry education and professional development.


    Working Conditions

    Work is performed in a corporate office environment with frequent travel to jobsites, customer locations, and company facilities.
    Travel may average up to 50% depending on project requirements and site visits.
    Must be able to access commercial rooftops and construction environments, including climbing ladders and working at heights when required.
    Must be able to work in varying weather conditions typical of construction environments.
    Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment when visiting jobsites.

    Must be able to lift and setup a ladder weighing up to 75 pounds

    Must be able to work rapidly under pressure and at heights

    Repetitive finger/hand/forearm motion necessary for completing data entry. Ability to manipulate keyboards, telephone keypads and copy equipment essential. Talking and listening required for answering telephones and conversing with customers and staff.
