    Teen Advisory Board Intern (Unpaid) The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco are seeking interns for the Teen Advisory Board program. General Description of the Program: Education Department is looking for College/University students or graduate students to intern with the Teen Advisory Board teen program. The Teen Advisory Board is comprised of 10 high school students hired to learn about current programs for teens, generate new ideas for programs and recruit teens to attend programs and events. Interns will train and mentor the teens on our Teen Advisory Board. Intern will lead and follow through with the publicity planning and assist teens to execute the publicity and promotion for all programs. Interns will support the event and program development, facilitation, research, communication and other administrative tasks. The internship commitment is from June 6, 2018 until May 4, 2019. No vacation time is included in the internship. Interviews: Interviews conducted in April and May. Closing date is when all positions are filled. Required Internship Schedule: Training- June 2108 Time: 10:30am-5:00pm Dates: Week 1: June 6, 7, 8, Week 2: 13, 14, 15 Week 3: 20, 21, 22 Week 4: 27, 28, 29 Regular Shifts-July 2018 through May 4, 2019 Fridays 2-7pm Up to 5 hours off-site weekly for project research and communications Duties: Intern responsibilities will include the following: 1. Learn about teen audiences and best practice for engaging teens in museum, specifically promoting events and programs. 2. Develop and research material and correspondence for teen events, promotional material and planning events for permanent collections. 3. Research, prepare, and present lecture/gallery talks to Teen Advisory Board about major themes from Contemporary Muslim Fashions exhibition. 4. Oversee work plans to keep teens on track for all event and program promotion. 5. Ability to attend off-site teen events with Teen Advisory Board for research and inspiration 6. Receive training on how to facilitate interactive and inquiry-based discussions on art using Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) technique. 7. May assist with other projects as needed for the Manager of Teen and Family Programs and other Education development staff. Educational Opportunities: 1. This internship is an opportunity to work in a position of responsibility in the Education Department of the Fine Arts Museums and contribute to the growth of an innovative program. 2. Interns will learn the role of education in the Fine Arts Museums' programming, and community outreach. 3. Interns will learn how to promote events and work closely with our social media department. 4. Interns will learn how to research and prepare gallery talks about the museum's special exhibition. 5. Meet with other museum staff and departments to expand knowledge of working museums. 6. College credit is often available for this internship. Qualifications: Interns are either recently graduated or current undergraduate, or graduate college/university students studying in Art History, Studio Art, History, Ethnic Studies, Social Justice, Sociology, Graphic Design, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Humanities or a related field. The ideal candidate will have experience working with social media, event planning and a desire to work with high school students. Teen Programs is looking for candidates with strong writing, communication, and time management skills, and the ability to juggle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment. The internship requires tact and courtesy in dealing effectively with the public and museum staff. This is an unpaid internship.
