    GENERAL SUMMARY:

    The Registered Nurse attends to the nursing needs of ICF/MR residents. In conjunction with the Shift Supervisor and/or Assistant Supervisor, the Licensed Practical Nurse attends to the daily living program needs of the residents. A minimum of 60% of worktime is spent in direct resident contact. 

     The Registered Nurse must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the residents served on his/her  unit – adolescent through geriatric, and functioning levels of residents within the MR Program.  The Registered Nurse must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span; possess the ability to assess data reflective of the resident's status; interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each resident's requirements relative to their specific needs; to provide the active treatment needed as developed by the interdisciplinary Team and outlined in the Individual Program Plan (IPP); and to provide the care needed as described in ICF/MR’s policies and procedures.

    EDUCATION:

     Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required.

     WORK EXPERIENCE:

     Nursing experience preferred.

    Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.

     SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

     Possession of a current license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nurse Examiners required.

    Must be cleared by PA State Police criminal history check.

    Must pass post job offer, pre-placement physical exam; and initial and subsequent annual TB screenings.

    Valid PA driver's license required for travel to fulfill responsibilities, i.e., resident programming, transport, and appointments.

    Must successfully complete Allied’s Driver Training Program.

    CPR certification must be obtained and maintained.

    Must demonstrate good administrative ability.

    Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills required for effective interaction with staff, residents, visitors, and external agencies.

    Knowledge of counseling skills and behavioral intervention techniques required.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

     Moderate Work: duties require exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally (approx 10-33% of shift), and/or up to 10lbs. of force frequently (approx 33-66% of the time), and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, and move objects (i.e., occasional patient transfers).  Position involves bending, reaching, and stooping (occasionally in strained position) throughout shift.  Must be able to assist with resident transfers to and from wheelchairs, beds, toilet facilities, ambulation difficulties, and seizures.  Position involves implementing IBP's and crisis intervention i.e., physical redirection, restraint, and techniques for protection of self and others.  Must have ability to attend to various emergency and other resident medical needs in various program locations as situations demand.  Must be able to travel to various program locations as needed.

    CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF JOB:

    Observes and monitors the condition of residents, acutely ill, severely disturbed, etc. Implements nursing care plans, applies the required nursing techniques, and carries out proper procedures.    Requisitions medicine, pours and dispenses medications, and maintains an accurate drug record.   Provides physical assistance in resident transfers to and from beds, bathroom facilities, company vehicles, etc., when necessary. Assists and supports residents  with ambulation or gait difficulties.  Assists in keeping accurate and timely records in accordance with ICF/MR regulations for each resident’s individual program plan, and data collection-sheets for each priority need established by the Interdisciplinary Team.  Provides individual support, instruction, and direction for residents as the situations warrant.  Assists physicians with examination and treatment of residents.

  • Qualifications
    1. Must have a comprehensive knowledge of routine and critical procedures with critical thinking skills for both adults, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
    2. Thorough knowledge of Respiratory physiology and ability to practice good judgment in the implementation of clinical interventions indicated by the patient status.
    3. Possesses effective oral and written communication skills.
    4. Possesses effective interpersonal relationship skills.
    5. Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions.
    6. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
