PROGRAM AND POSITION SUMMARY:
Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps (ALCC) engages motivated Indigenous young adults, ages 18 - 30, to complete challenging and impactful conservation and service projects throughout the western United States. Projects may include trail construction & maintenance, habitat improvement, hazardous fuels reduction, re-vegetation, historic preservation, and local environmental service projects. ALCC provides opportunities for members to learn about the local environment and issues surrounding conservation. ALCC crews work in a variety of National Parks, National Forests, and other public areas. Selected members are placed on a crew which will then collaborate to perform project work. ALCC is a non-residential program and does not offer housing. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as Hard Hat, Safety Glasses, Leather Gloves, Safety Ear Plugs, will be issued during prep-week. Additional gear and equipment (ex. sleeping bag, tent) rental is available upon request.
Ancestral Lands Zuni office is located within the A:shiwi A:wan College & Career Readiness Center/ NTUI Zuni branch building. The shop space is located on the far west end of the building and is designated by a Gate entrance. Crews arrive at 7AM to gather the necessities for the work week or Hitch. Project focus may vary depending on the project partners expectations. Program Manager will use this gathering time to educate the crew on the Scope of Work for the week. Participants are expected to arrive on time and ready with camping/work gear. Come in with an open Mind and a open Heart and learn about the many ways to lead our nations back to ecological and cultural well-being.
