    Position Details

Stewards Individual Placement Program (SIPP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural and cultural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. This in an on-site, 19-week, fulltime position, set to begin in mid to late May, with an end date of 9/30/2024.

Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence Interpretive Center/Fort Buford State Historic Site is part of North Dakota State Historical Society and is along to the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail. This institute has actively worked to create space and interpretive programming on the inclusive history and culture of the confluence region of the Upper Missouri including Fort Buford State Historic Site through exhibits, displays, living history and special events. This intern program, sponsored by the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail, is designed to help with the interpretation and history of this upper Missouri story, Fort Buford and all related to its history. This will be accomplished by learning the history and culture displayed in the center exhibits, panels, education material, mentorship, and other pertinent information to educate and inspire visitors to the Upper Missouri and Fort Buford and their connection to the early west.

The intern will also have the opportunity to engage with the Lewis and Clark Trail team on a monthly basis to make connections and bridge communications.

Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail was designated by Congress to commemorate the 1803 to 1806 Corps of Discovery expedition. This epic journey contributed significant scientific knowledge and profound political, social, economic, cultural, and environmental changes to the peoples and landscapes of the North American continent.

The intern will work to interpret the history and culture of both Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail and ND Missouri Yellowstone Confluence Interpretive Center and Fort Buford.
