    Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is seeking a Plant & Equipment Advisor at our Baltimore, Maryland location. This position is responsible for providing the highest level of service and maintenance to assigned facilities in order to keep utilities and equipment in optimum operating condition. This role advises management on the status of major Buildings & Grounds budget items.  The Plant and Equipment Advisor works with contractors and outside vendors to maintain optimal plant conditions.  Essential duties include performing hands-on maintenance and repairs to air compressors, air conditioning units, electric and gas heating units, lighting fixtures, low voltage machine transformers, three phase electrical hook-ups, plumbing fixtures, and other general building, lot and grounds tasks.  Seeking candidates with a minimum four years’ experience in a maintenance trade, with strong knowledge of electrical, air-conditioning, plumbing and structural repairs.  Requires professional electrician's license and HVAC trade certification.  High School diploma or GED required.  Trade school graduate preferred.   

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • High mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot and perform mechanical maintenance/repairs of HVAC, electrical, plumbing and carpentry.

    • Strong communication skills required; able to positively interact with supervisor, and understand problems/concerns related to a repair.

    • Must be able to occasionally operate heavy machinery in a safe manner.

    • Able to fulfill environmental compliance requirements, including inspecting, handling, storing, labeling and responding to small spills of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes within your control.

    • Ability to coordinate quotes from outside vendors, prioritize work, obtain necessary materials and complete maintenance needs.

    • Oversee the performance of outside vendors working on Carter Machinery property.

    • Must possess an excellent driving record, with valid driver’s license.  Able to travel to other Carter Machinery facilities to work on projects.

    • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

    • Miscellaneous Buildings & Grounds tasks may include replacing electric motors, compressors, seals, fans, gauges, changing oil & filters, lighting pilots, metering valves, replacing ballast and bulbs in lighting fixtures, organizing offices, patching roofs, replacing sinks, faucets, piping or filters, painting, cutting grass, trimming shrubs, removing snow, etc. 

    • Able to work overtime as required; may require working shifts as needed, including days, nights and/or weekends.

      

    Must meet physical requirements for the job, including the ability to lift, carry and maneuver items up to 70 pounds, including bulky objects.  This position requires repeated reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending and climbing beside, onto and under a variety of equipment.  Must be able to work outside in inclement weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, dampness and humidity.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • BS in Mechanical Engineering required.
    • Proficiency in SolidWorks 3D CAD, Finite Element Analysis Tools, and Microsoft Office.
    • Engineering design and documentation work experience.
    • Knowledge of GD&T.
    • Strong communication abilities, both written and verbal, and interpersonal skills.
    • Academic background in control systems and mechanical analysis preferred along with environmental, material, and packaging discipline.
    • PDM design environment preferred.
    • Must be legally authorized to work in the US, visa sponsorship not available
    • Must be a US Citizen or be a US Permanent Residence Card Holder
