Social Secretary in the Ambassadors Office The Embassy of Switzerland in Washington, DC is seeking a qualified candidate for a permanent position as Social Secretary in the Ambassadors office beginning on or about September 4, 2018. The objective of the position is to assist the Ambassador and his spouse by organizing all events at the Residence of the Ambassador, including but not limited to all verbal and written communications to guests and organizers; coordinate and conduct all logistical planning for events at the Residence of the Ambassador and utilize acquired knowledge and experience to achieve mission goals. Duties and Responsibilities: Assist the Ambassador and his wife in all aspects of event planning and coordination Responsible from conception stage to conclusion of event Maintain appointment calendars, schedules and databases of contacts Coordinate with other sections of the Embassy on specific events Support the ambassadors office by proactively engaging during visits of delegations and guests to provide excellent service Respond in a friendly manner on the telephone or in written form as needed Give advice to colleagues on matters of U.S. protocol Assist the Ambassador as needed on social correspondence Assist with invitations and provide advice to Ambassador on participation Proactively work and cooperate with all sections of the Embassy to ensure smooth operations Serve as liaison to Ambassadors spouse and Residence staff. Work closely with Ambassadors Assistant Requirements: (Please do not apply if you do not meet ALL of the following criteria) 3-5 years of experience as Social Secretary or in protocol work or event planning BS / BA degree or equivalent in a relevant field Knowledge and understanding of U.S. Government and political system, as well as think tanks, NGOs, and cultural and charitable organizations Interest and knowledge in protocol matters Excellent communication skills (written and spoken) in English Willingness to work evenings and weekends Knowledge of German or French preferred Computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, as well as database experience Interpersonal skills to solve problems and communicate between stakeholders Ability to multi-task in a fast-moving environment US Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident (LPR) only, visa support will not be provided Local metropolitan Washington DC area applicants only We Offer: Inviting work atmosphere, Interesting work in a foreign representation Competitive salary and benefits package with a 401 k plan 4 weeks of paid vacation, American and some Swiss holidays Location in NW Washington DC, close to Red Line Metro To Apply:
