Position summary: Provide full time on-site structural engineering services for the Maryland State Highway Administrations (MDSHA) Office of Remedial Engineering located at 707 North Calvert Street Baltimore, MD 21202. The candidate will be required to work in a 3-person team and reporting to the MDSHA team leader daily. This position offers contractual employment for 12 months, renewing annually. The candidates responsibilities include field inspections, writing and reviewing reports, designing repairs, creating spread sheets for design calculations, running computer design programs, drafting plans using MicroStation, writing specifications, writing correspondence letters, attending meetings, creating engineer estimates and other duties required to assist MDSHAs in-house design team. Essential functions and responsibilities: Engineering analysis of structures using computer programs, excel spreadsheets and hand-written calculations for the design of repairs to existing structures. Review bridge inspection reports. Assist in the field performing bridge and structure inspections. Drafting repair plans using MicroStation. Ability to compute structural load ratings for bridges. General knowledge of bridge, culvert and retaining wall construction. Ability to commute to Baltimore City daily. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work and thrive in a team environment. Required Skills Proficiency with MicroStation V8i. Knowledge of drafting standards and procedures. Experience with Microsoft office. Experience creating spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel for structural computations. Experience using of MDSHAs Standard Specifications. Experience using AASHTO Experience using Bentley InspectTech program to generate bridge/structure inspection reports. Experience using Bentley LARS program to compute bridge load ratings. Required Experience Bachelors degree from a four-year accredited University. Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam. 0-5 years of structural analysis experience with bridges, culverts and retaining walls. 1-5 years of bridge inspection and report writing experience. 2-5 years of bridge load rating experience. Working Conditions: Work will be performed as a supplemental engineer for the Maryland State Highway Administration Structures Remedial Engineering Division located at 707 North Calvert Street Baltimore, MD 21202. Work is generally performed within a general office environment but may require field visits and/or inspections at bridge sites. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate within the office environment. Garage Parking is located nearby and will be reimbursed monthly.
