    POSITION DETAILS 

    Stewards Individual Placement Program (SIPP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. SIPP is in partnership with the Green Team is a Groundwork Mobile County program tasked with turning blighted properties, opens spaces, and local waterways into community-based assets. Mobile County high school students, ages 14 – 18, are hired to perform work in the areas of environmental conservation and education in the County’s Communities of Priority. Program participants work throughout the year on several local environmental initiatives such as community gardening and urban agriculture developments, clean waterways initiatives, data collection activities, and community engagement through paid and unpaid service-learning projects to help revitalize our most vulnerable communities. The Green Team members participate in job training, classroom instruction, field work, guest lectures, field trips, and data collection/research activities to learn about and promote environmental awareness within the communities they serve. Groundwork Mobile County is recruiting for a Youth Leader for its Green Team Program.

     

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE: 

    • Lead the development of local environmental initiatives such as community gardening and urban agriculture, waterway debris removal, data collection, community engagement, and various service-learning projects.
    • Develop curriculum and process for classroom instruction, field work, guest lectures, field trips, activities, and data collection/research.
    • Promote environmental awareness.
    • Promote exposure to food production systems and business strategies.
    • Protect and restore ecological systems and natural resources.
    • Engage participants in advocacy and service efforts around waterways, vacant/blighted land, brownfields, parks, and open spaces.
    • Lead the development of local environmental initiatives such as community gardening and urban agriculture, waterway debris removal, data collection, community engagement, and various service-learning projects.

     

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

    • 18 years of age
    • Some college

    • Transportation

     

    BENEFITS:

    • Position is eligible for an AmeriCorps education award upon successful completion of the program. Value of education award is $6,345.00 (pre-tax). 
    • Living Allowance: $513.94/Bi-weekly (pre-tax)
