The AFRL Munitions Directorate (RW) seeks to fill a mid-level DR-0801-04, Lead Principal General Engineer for the Technology Integration Division (RWI), at Eglin Air Force Base in Valparaiso, Florida. The ideal candidate will have significant experience leading multi-disciplinary technical teams on science & technology/research & development (S&T/R&D) initiatives, including strategic development planning, program execution, and technology maturation and integration. Experience building cross-organizational working relationships to achieve technical requirements within cost and schedule constraints is highly desired.
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Serves as the Lead Engineer for the Technology Integration Division (RWI).
- Leads, promotes, and enables complex professional engineering and scientific research involving the application and integration of multidisciplinary engineering fields and processes to plan, organize, direct, and coordinate significant and complex research projects and/or processes.
- Guides the resolution of multi-faceted technical and systems engineering problems spanning multiple disciplines.
- Provides technical guidance to research and/or scientific teams to foster collaboration, promote synergy, encourage innovation, and ensure technical rigor.
- Leads development of innovative approaches and solutions that exploit emerging technology and foster an environment of technology exploration .
- Leads development of Science and Technology (S&T) objectives, technology gaps, and proposed solutions for Advanced Technology Demonstration (6.3) research consistent with the Munitions Directorate’s mission and priorities.
- Establishes and maintains collaborations with technical leaders in other RW divisions.
- Collaborates, communicates, and advocates for S&T initiatives to OSD, DAF HQ, MAJCOMs, CCMDs, DoD Agencies, Sister Services, AFRL HQ, other AFRL Directorates, universities, and industry partners, both nationally and internationally.
- Provides division-level oversight for technical program planning, requirements generation, resource allocation, coordination, collaboration, and documentation, including execution plans and program management reviews.
- Provides division-level oversight for systems engineering, including Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), Technical Performance Measures (TPMs), and technical risks.
- Provides division-level oversight of test planning and execution.
- Supports division in effective management of security, contractual, financial, personnel, and programmatic processes, including security and policy reviews for release of program, project, and technology information.
- Mentors lead engineers within RWI and others across the directorate.
- Represents RWI at technical conferences, symposia, and key engagements with internal/external partners and stakeholders.
- Works across organizational boundaries to establish collaborations
- Coordinates with internal/external stakeholders (e.g., RWT, RWS, AFLCMC/EB, AAC, AFGSC, industry, academia) to facilitate transition of RW technologies.

Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
- Must possess a professional science or engineering (S&E) degree from an accredited academic institution and provide transcripts when applying.

- Must have at least one year of specialized experience at the DR-03/GS-14 or equivalent grade level. Specialized professional experience meeting the minimum qualification requirements includes applying their professional degree to solving S&E challenges; AND experience which includes mastery of advanced electronics engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment sufficient to apply experimental theories, principles, and concepts to project execution and advisory services. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service.
- This is a Non-Critical APDP position requiring Level 2 Practioner Certification in Engineering and Technical Management (N). The selectee must meet, or be capable of achieving, the APDP certification as designated on the position description within the defined grace period for that certification level after assignment.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary technical teams of military and civilian scientists and engineers through significant uncertainty with limited guidance/oversight to execute complex S&T/R&D programs.
- Experience leading strategic development planning for S&T/R&D initiatives, including responsibility for independently setting goals/objectives, defining technology challenges/gaps, leading concept ideation to close technology gaps, and leading the execution planning including identifying required financial manpower and or facility resources.
- Experience leading S&T/R&D program execution, including responsibility for cost, schedule, and performance.
- Experience leading S&T/R&D technical execution, including responsibility for requirements generation, resource allocation, coordination, collaboration, test planning and execution, documentation, and information release.
- Experience leading diverse, multi-disciplinary teams to implement systems engineering best practices, including establishing and managing Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), Technical Performance Measures (TPMs), technical risks, model-based systems engineering, and digital engineering tools and environments.
- Experience building coalitions and consensus with industry, academia, MAJCOMs, Allies, stakeholders, and partners to mature and transition advanced technology concepts.
- Master’s degree/PhD in a technical field from an accredited university/institute.
