    TITLE: ANCESTRAL LANDS - USDA FOREST SERVICE POT CREEK INTERPRETIVE CREW LEAD

    STIPEND: $685/week 

    TERM: MAY 18TH, 2020 - AUGUST 21ST, 2020

    REPORTS TO: USDA Forest Service Carson National Forest - Camino Real Ranger District

    SOUTHWEST CONSERVATION CORPS’ MISSION

    It is the mission of the Southwest Conservation Corps to empower individuals to positively impact their lives, their communities and the environment. The Ancestral Lands program is specifically designed to engage Native American youth and young adults with offices in Acoma, Durango, Gallup, Salida, Zuni, and Hopi. *ANCESTRAL LANDS SERVES LOCAL TRIBAL COMMUNITIES IN THE REGIONS WE OPERATE. APPLICANTS MUST BE NATIVE AMERICAN.

     

    PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

    The Heritage Resources Program supports the US Forest Service's mission to care for the land and serve the people through relationship building with partners and public users, sustainable recreation, and active restoration of the National Forests and Grasslands of the Southwest.

     

    The goals of this program include:

    • Engaging local Tribal young adults in ongoing Forest restoration projects
    • Providing relevant job skills to Tribal young adults
    • Provide Tribal young adults with exposure to traditional cultural life-ways and material cultural knowledge
    • Cultivate meaningful interactions, points of connection, and mutual benefits between the Carson National Forest and its local Pueblo partners
    • Integrate new technologies for natural and cultural resource interpretation

     

    Essential functions and responsibilities:

    Interpretation of cultural heritage and archaeology (training provided by Forest Archaeologists and Tribal partners).

    Participation in ongoing Forest restoration work.

    Complete routine trails maintenance work and other on-site duties.

    Training in traditional cultural life-ways (educational sessions conducted by Tribal partners) and northern Rio Grande archaeology (educational sessions conducted by Forest archaeologists).

    The lead will receive training in the following:

    • Technologies workshop/filming, editing, and interpretive use of media
    • Resume building and successful interview techniques
    • USAJobs/federal employment workshop
    • College panel
    • Personal Finances
    • Public speaking
    • CPR/First Aid

     

    GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

    Applicants should possess communication and leadership skills; have an interest in natural and/or cultural resource management, traditional knowledge, and Pueblo history and prehistory; be able to participate for the summer season up to 40 hours per week.

    TRIBAL MEMBERS OF TAOS AND/OR PICURIS PUEBLO ARE PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED.

     

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Federally-recognized Tribal membership is required.
    • 18 years of age or older
    • High school graduate or Equivalency
    • U.S. Citizenship
      • Permanent Resident Card, INS form I-551
      • Alien Registration Card, INS form I-551
      • A passport indicating that the INS has been approved it as temporary evidence of lawful admission for permanent residence
      • A departure record (INS 194) indication that the INS has approved it as temporary evidence of lawful admission for permanent residence
    • Valid driver’s license

    IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:

     

    • Pick orders by operating both forklift or box truck equipment
    • Clear product from assembly lines
    • Load trucks for daily shipments
    • Receive materials into the plant from suppliers and other Liberty Packaging locations
    • Receive and process returned goods from customers
    • Create maximum load shipments while ensuring a high level of quality in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
    • Work in a manner that emphasizes safety of self and others by following all work safety policies, programs and guidelines
    • Provide support in production as requested or needed
    • Communicate effectively to all other team members
    • Other duties as requested or assigned

    QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    • High School diploma or equivalent
    • A minimum of 1-2 years of forklift experience within a manufacturing environment preferred
    • Mobile equipment certified or willing to become certified
    • Must have a valid driver's license
    • Ability to withstand continuous sitting; occasional pushing, pulling, bending and/or stooping; and occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs
    • Basic computer skills such as typing, printing and data entry
    • Ability to read work instructions (i.e. SOP’s, Specs, etc.)
