    The University of Montana Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for TWO (2) TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITIONS in astronomy and/or astrophysics beginning August 2023.  Appointments at the assistant professor level are expected, but a more senior appointment may be possible for exceptionally qualified candidates. We seek applicants who have a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate education and the potential to develop an externally funded research program involving undergraduate physics majors. Start-up funds are available. Applicants from all fields of research (observational, theoretical, computational, or experimental) are invited to apply. The successful applicant will be expected to teach a wide range of undergraduate astronomy and physics courses and develop a successful research program. The candidates will be vital members of a program that is focused on excellence in teaching, research and engagement of undergraduate students.     POSITION DETAILS

    TENURE TRACK FACULTY: Department of Physics and Astronomy

    TITLE: Professor of astronomy and/or astrophysics

    POSITION TYPE: Academic, full time (1.0 FTE) during academic year (10 months)

    SCHEDULE: Full time, academic year position beginning Fall semester 2023.

    ENTRY RATE: Base yearly salary of $75,000

    PRIMARY DUTIES: Teaching, development of successful program and engagement of undergraduate students.

    ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS AND ASTRONOMY AND THE UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA:

    We focus on student’s physical degree in astronomy and strive to help them learn about the inner workings of the universe, study computational physics and develop the skills required for computational modeling of physical systems. We help our students develop hands-on skills and allow them to gain exceptional opportunities for undergraduate research and hands-on learning.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    HS Diploma or GED Equivalent from an accredited institution

    5+ years leadership experience in manufacturing

    5+ years’ experience in the corrugated/converting industry

    Excellent leadership skills.

    • Able to effectively coach, persuade, motivate, and direct others.
    • Able to collaborate effectively with others to achieve goals and drive continuous process improvement.

     

    PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS

    • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
    • Excellent computer skills; MS Office / ERP Systems
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Excellent organization and time management skills
    • Previous experience with implementing behavior-based safety programs
    • Strategic planning skills

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Qualified candidates must be able to perform the following physical job requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation:
