In partnership with the USDA Forest Service Milwaukee Urban Connections Program, MobilizeGreen is seeking a Resource Assistant (RA) to help enhance the work of Neighborhood House of Milwaukee. The RA will assist with conservation education programs that connect Milwaukee youth and urban residents to outdoors and to the programs of the USDA Forest Service. The 6-month RA internship position will be located in the city of Milwaukee, WI. Diverse applicants strongly encouraged to apply. Term: Full-time (40 hours per week) for 6 months, October 2018-March 2019 Benefits: * $500/week living allowance * Monthly housing stipend * 2-year non-competitive hiring certificate for permanent jobs with the Forest Service (must complete at least 960 hours to be eligible) * Hands on training and experience Duties & Responsibilities: The RA will represent the USDA Forest Service but work mostly with one of the FS Milwaukee Partners, Neighborhood House, to enhance the work of their various conservation education programs. Types of projects include: * Visit K-8 classrooms and conduct conservation education programs, with Neighborhood House's 5-6 partner schools, focusing on USFS and NH conservation education key topics such as: value of forests, water, stewardship, invasive species, outdoor recreation and natural resource careers * Work with NH after-school programs on activities and events connecting Milwaukee residents to the health and wellness benefits of getting outdoors, as well as conservation education programs focused on above topics * Assist NH with community events focused on outdoor recreation, community gardening, and conservation, to increase urban resident engagement in environmental issues facing their community * Share natural resource career information with NH youth and teens. * Highlight the role the USFS plays in conservation of public lands, national and urban forests, outdoor recreation and natural resource career opportunities Work Environment: The work environment presents normal, every-day risks or discomforts typical of offices, meeting rooms, schools, field and travel situations. There will be exposure to the temperate climate of Milwaukee between October and March. Local travel, in the Milwaukee area, will be frequent, and RA must have a valid Driver's license. Physical Demands: The work requires that the RA be flexible and adapt to a variety of work settings, both indoors and outdoors. There will be physical exertion, such as walking and hiking on uneven terrain, as well as lifting and moving of equipment up to 25 lbs.
