School Programs Summer Intern April 4, 2018 Categories: Internships Education Department Help the school programs staff prepare for a new year of programming in the downtime over the summer. School programs serve approximately 15,000 students a year through onsite and distance learning opportunities that encourage students to look closely and think critically about the designed world around them. Interns devote a majority of their time to a project of their own design intended to help the school programs staff better serve teachers and students in the 2018-19 school year. Interns will also assist with a variety of projects to prepare for the next school year- providing a good survey of the types of work a museum education position performs. Responsibilities : Perform duties organizing, sorting, building, and rehabilitating current school supplies for 2018-19 school year. Perform admin duties related to communication between museum staff and classroom teachers. Attend Education Department meetings as schedule allows. Spend 2 hours a week helping with the Museums blockbuster summer exhibition. After first few weeks of interning, summer interns will propose and develop- with staff support- a project of their own design intended to help school programs staff better serve their audiences in the coming year. Examples projects may include: Update content and formatting for teacher supplemental resources relating to a current school program Review, standardize, and update Homeschool Day lesson plans- or write a new Homeschool Day lesson plan Develop trainings for Museum educators related to program content Edit and revitalize current school program lesson plans Develop a section of a lesson plan for a new school program related to a current exhibition Required Qualifications: Passion for youth and/or museum education Reliability and dedication Preferred Qualifications: Experience with project management Experience with and proficiency in writing Experience with students, teachers, and/or educational resources Familiarity with local educational standards Experience with Microsoft Publisher or the like Commitment : Minimum time commitment of 15 hours a week for 6 weeks, but more is welcome and how hours are divided can be flexible Internship must take place between mid- June and mid- September, 2018 Minimum time commitment of about 2 half days a week for 6 contiguous weeks, but more is welcome and how hours divided can be flexible To apply Send resume and cover letter to Caitlin Miller, cmiller@nbm.org by April 16.
