Position Summary: NRDC is seeking an Intern to work with the Water and Climate team in our Chicago office. This will be a full-time (35 hours per week) unpaid position from June 25August 31, 2018. RESPONSIBILITIES Primary: (1) Municipal Flood Adaptation Project Research and compile a database of municipalities participating in the National Flood Insurance Program that have adopted measures to expedite adaptation of community infrastructure to increasing flood risk Analyze the collected data and assess which policies are efficient and effective, and assist in preparing a report on analysis Assist in drafting of model legislation to implement flood adaptation measures (2) Flood Protection Standard Project Research Public Assistance Grant funded rebuilding projects initiated in the aftermath of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria to determine whether the damaged infrastructure was rebuilt to a higher standard of safety Use the research to assist in advocacy efforts calling for flood protection standard federal infrastructure investments. Secondary: Design and execute a research project related to a climate change adaptation of interest to the intern. QUALIFICATIONS Skilled in research and data analysis High-degree of familiarity with Microsoft Office, in particular, Excel. Genuine interest in the work of the Water and Climate Team.
