Purpose External Relations works to obtain and strengthen broad social acceptance before, during, and beyond the life of a mine. The Social Responsibility sub-function supports the work with neighboring communities at each of Newmonts sites while the External Relations sub-function builds relationships with global, national, and regional stakeholders. Essential Duties Scope and Responsibilities The internship will ideally be from January 2019 August 2019. The exact dates are flexible depending on the students availability. It is assumed that the internship will be part time (12-20 hours / week) from January May, and fulltime (40 hours/week) during the summer. Interns will receive a stipend. The work will be designed to execute with little supervision at the Corporate Headquarters located in Greenwood Village, CO, and may include travel to one or more of Newmonts sites. There is ample opportunity for internal networking around the company. The intern will be responsible for implementing specific Social Responsibility and External Relations projects during the course of his or her internship, as well as supporting the day-to-day activities of the department. The exact projects will be determined according to the interns availability, interest, skills, and experience. The student may have the opportunity to collaborate on projects with other sub-functions within Sustainability and External Relations (Environment, Communications, Government Relations, and Systems & Services). Possible projects include: -Research into multiple topics that may include: Human Rights, Indigenous Peoples, Community Development, Sustainable Development Goals, Stakeholder Engagement -General support to the External Relations and Social Responsibility teams for communication and/or training materials, data analyses, and reporting -Conduct benchmarking studies to understand industry best practices -Exact projects will be determined closer to the start date, and will take into account the interns interests and experience. The above duties and responsibilities are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive. Training & Experience Qualifications: -Graduate students preferred, graduating in December 2019 or later preferably studying: MBA, Environmental Engineering, International Development, International Economics, Communications. Other similar disciplines will be considered. -Women and students with experiences of different and diverse cultures are strongly encouraged to apply -Experience in mining and/or passion to learn about the mining industry -Organized and good project management skills -Strong communication and interpersonal skills & comfort engaging senior leaders and global teams -Strong research methods capability and writing skills -At least a 3.0 GPA or equivalent Working Conditions This position takes place at the corporate offices located in Greenwood Village, CO.
