Purpose Newmonts Technical Services (TS) works to secure value for life of mine by providing technical support for exploration, projects, and operating sites. The Process division of TS, including Newmont Metallurgical Services (NMS), performs the test work that drives many business decisions. Essential Duties Scope and Responsibilities The internship will ideally be from May 2019 August 2019. The exact dates are flexible depending on the students availability. It is assumed that the internship will be fulltime (40 hours/week) during the summer. Interns will receive a stipend. The work will be designed to execute with little supervision at the Malozemoff Technical Facility (MTF) located in Englewood, CO, and may include travel to one or more of Newmonts sites. There is ample opportunity for internal networking around the company. The intern will be responsible for implementing specific metallurgical, mineralogical, analytical, or supporting process related projects during the course of his or her internship, as well as supporting the day-to-day activities of the department. The exact projects will be determined according to the interns availability, interest, skills, and experience. Possible projects include: -Research into multiple topics including: optimizing methods and parameters for ICP-MS/ICP-OES, investigating SRM compatibility for QA/QC purposes, and developing methods for sample preparation techniques such as digestions. -General support to the Analytical Team for sample preparation, data analyses and reporting. The above duties and responsibilities are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive. Training & Experience -Undergraduate (Junior or Senior Level) and 1styear Graduate students preferred Chemistry, Geochemistry, Geology. Other similar disciplines will be considered. -Women and students with experiences of different and diverse cultures are strongly encouraged to apply -Experience in mining and/or passion to learn about the mining industry -Organized and good project management skills -Strong communication and interpersonal skills & comfort engaging senior leaders and global teams -Strong research methods capability and writing skills -At least a 3.0 GPA or equivalent Working Conditions This position takes place at Newmont's Malozemoff Tech Facility located in Englewood, CO.
