CONSERVATION CORPS NORTH CAROLINA:
The mission of the Conservation Corps North Carolina (CCNC) is to empower young adults through meaningful outdoor work that benefits North Carolina’s land and water and creates healthy communities.
CCNC is a program of Conservation Legacy that partners with GAVCC, Conservation Trust for North Carolina (CTNC) and public land managers in North Carolina.
CCNC engages motivated young adults, ages 16-27, to complete challenging and impactful conservation service projects throughout the region. Projects may include trail construction & maintenance, habitat improvement, hazard fuel reduction, and ecological restoration. Crews may also complete technical and/or specialized projects depending on project partner needs, including disaster relief if the opportunity arises.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This is an exciting opportunity to work on an AmeriCorps Chainsaw Crew at two or more North Carolina State Parks. The CCNC State Parks Saw Crew will receive S-212 chainsaw certification and work directly with NC State Parks personnel to remove trees and debris off state park trails and public lands with chainsaws, improving visitor access and ecological health. There is the potential for training and participation in prescribed burns and other wildland fire management project work. This crew will provide on-the-job experience to anyone interested in working for a state park and/or gaining experience for a natural resource career.
The crew will consist of two Crew Leaders and six Corpsmembers. Typically, Corpsmembers will camp out in the field and complete project work for 9 days at a time followed by 4-5 days off. This schedule may vary depending upon project partner needs. When not in the field, members are expected to find their own housing. Meals are provided while in the field.
The crew will understand the value of hard work, the contributions their work will make to North Carolina State Parks, and the need to focus on safety and excellence in all aspects of the project. Chain saws and all other tools and equipment will be provided.
